Hi, new to this forum so I apologize if this has already been discussed.

I've got a 2019 Tradesman Classic, 3.6 V6, 2 wheel drive, and a towing package. The dealer told me it could tow ~10,000 lbs, however he got that number from a similar (but different) Ram.

Is 10,000 lbs generally the towing capacity of my truck?

Thanks!

Also helpful to let us know what you are looking to tow. As you will learn quickly, most 1/2 ton trucks run out of payload long before towing capacity. Actually, your truck may be the unicorn in that equation given the 2WD. Depends on other options and whether it's a crew or quad cab. If towing a camper things can get a bit complicated, but no worries...we're here to help.

The dealer straight-up lied to you.

Let me rephrase that. The 3.6 could, conceivably, get 10k moving. However, it won't do it very well and that's likely an understatement. The 10k max rating is for a truck with the Hemi in it. Your truck is more likely rated to 7500, as pointed out above, because of the V6 engine. However, you probably have a pretty high payload, which will help you out.

Depending on what you want to tow, you may or may not have enough truck. Whatever you end up towing, just remember you won't be winning any races.

Old thread but in answer to your question, there are a LOT of threads on here about this, and most of them are going to tell you that you probably shouldn't because you'll be over on payload and maybe axle ratings.

There are some guys on here who are going to say 'yeah sure go for it it'll be no problem.' I don't side with them, because will it do it? Probably. Is it going to like it? No. Will it blow up? Probably not. Are you going to see accelerated wear on components that aren't built for that kind of weight? Absolutely.
