I have gotten a new 2020 Ram Warlock 3.6 V6. Pulling my Micro Minnie camper, 4500#, the truck will set up at 3000rpm 5th gear 65 mph. It will not shift to 6th gear for love nor money. Is this normal or am I missing something? Can't see why it should not drop rpm. Dodge service centers can not answer my question.

Plain and simple, you don’t have the power to shift down. With a travel trailer the drag increases exponentially with speed. What happens if you slow down to 62-63 mph?

Because it needs the RPM to stay in the Torque.

Remember it only has 269 lb ft at 4175 RPM

Truck is performing as intended

Assuming your truck is 4x4. What gear ratio do you have.

3.21 has 11900 GCWR

And 3.55 has 12900 GCWR

Your truck probably weigha around 5200 pounds.

5200 plus 4500 is 9700...tongue weight about 500 so 10200

Is the 4500 what your trailer weighs or is it the ship weight?

You are real close to max...how many passengers and stuff in the truck?

I still say 3k at 65 is how the truck needs to work...that thing aint got no HEMI

It has a 3.55 rear end. Can I assume running 3000rpm for extended periods of time is no problem for this engine?

No problem.

It is designed to run that way. Peak torque is 4175....so that is were it needs to turn.

Peak horsepower is at 6400 RPM

So, high RPMS is were it needs to be. And to get those High RPMs it needs to be in the lower gears.

Zero problem with that, won't reduce its life by a minute.

You're fine at that RPM for extended periods of time. As a point of reference, I keep mine around 2200-2300 or so on the highway (typically 7th gear) because I've found that it's where the Pentastar's mpg is at peak (with 3.92 rear), not towing anything.

The pentastar is a good engine, but it needs rpms before it's really happy. Keep it lubed with good oil and maintain it and it'll be fine.
