Hey everyone,

Bought a 2020 1500 Laramie Ecodiesel new from a dealer. Was cleaning my interior yesterday and looked up and saw obvious water intrusion stain on the headliner. It goes from passenger seat seen here over to driver side along the whole back. I spent all morning calling dealerships within an 1-1.5 radius of me here in Atlanta and either no one picks up or if they do, they offer me an April service appointment. My dealership said they don't have the right tech on staff right now and can't help.

How do you recommend I proceed?

The way I see it you have 3 choices...
1. Wait until April.
2. Diagnose the leak and fix it yourself. There are various ways to fix a leak, not all of them are desirable though.
3. Keep searching for a dealership that can get you in sooner. It may require that you travel quite a ways from home. Also not desirable depending on how far you have to go.

Edit: Actually I just thought of a 4th option. Find a non-delaereship service center that can help you. Of course paying for this will come out of your pocket.

Found a place an hour and a half away that would take the truck, but they would need to hold it for 5-7 days just to diagnose it and then repairs *might* start. So Id be looking at probably a few weeks without a car. Sadly can't do it. Man this frustrating.

Take your third brake light down and inspect the seal on it , these are a common place for a leak . You will see evidence once you look inside where it mounts . Home Depot sell weatherstripping that can be made to work as a new seal. I did mine eight years ago and haven’t seen a drop . Other places could be the roof seams, sunroof ,sun roof drains , cab lights , satilite antenna, there are more places that could leak however they are lower.

The most common area for leaks on 5th gen 1500's is the rear window frame. It's common for them to crack on the top edge, near the ends of the opening for the slider. These cracks will allow water to get inside. Lots of people have had their rear windows replaced under warranty. My daughter had hers replaced at the end of last summer. So far both my wife's truck and my truck haven't started leaking. But the wife's 2020 does have a crack on the passenger side where I described, and you can just start to see a crack forming on the driver side. We're keeping a close eye on it.

Got my truck into the local dealership, they kept it for a week and replaced the whole back window. It rained for the first time here yesterday and i went to check the truck and the leak is now worse. This is such a disaster.

wow they either didnt fix the cab brake light and or did not install the new window properly or if you have a pano roof that is the problem. they repaced my third brake light and installed my rear window in oct 2021 no leaks yet, but they did have to send back the first window ram sent it was defective. im glad my dealership knows what they are doing.
