2021 ram 1500 etorque problems

At 8000 miles the bearing in the pulley or something internal in it is already making a grinding noise. The dealership is taking care of everything but though the community should know there are etorque issues.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention. There's no reason for anyone to panic sell their etorque equipped trucks for it though, as it's not something that's common. The etorque system has been in service since the second half of 2018, and this is the first generator bearing failure I've read about. Bearings in anything have a potential to fail. This one seems to have failed prematurely. It's what the warranty is for. I'm glad to hear it's being taken care of.

My daughter has eTorque on her 2021 Ram 1500. 5.7L

She hates it, so do I.

1. On idle it makes a horrible squealing noise you can make it go quieter by putting it in neutral.
2 My daughter hates auto shutoff but allows it to reduce idle noise.
3. Down shift coming to a stop is very jerky.

This is her 3rd Ram 1500 in her words they can worse every year.

Of course, dealer says noise is normal.
Reprograms shifting but it quickly goes back to bad shifting.

Any ideas?

Change dealer, sue Ram (would not be my first time).

The 8HP line of transmission actually "learns" how the vehicle is driven. So yeah how the vehicle is driven effects the shift pattern, this is something that happens over 100s/1000s of miles so it's not instantaneous. What do you mean "bad" shifting?
As for the "jerky" downshifting coming to a stop, What kind of speed(s) and braking conditions does this happen?

I only have 500 miles but my e-torque is completely transparent. Smooth from a start and smooth shifts. Perhaps they are perfecting it but so far so good.

I have a 2021 eTorque, 21K miles and no problems. If ordering a truck I would probably skip it but if I was shopping and found what I wanted with eTorque it certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker.

Any vehicle can have issues. Every one I've ever owned has broken multiple times over the ownership period (7 to 10 years generally) Mechanical things sometimes break.

For me to be concerned about the e-torque, I'd have to see a material percentage of units sold having a problem. If you could show me that 5 to 10% of all e-torque motors sold had the problem, then I'd be a little worried. But one here and there on a forum? It's an insignificant percentage of all units sold.

I'm glad it's under warranty, that's cool, and I hope they get it back to you quick.

I'd be visiting another dealership. It's not a normal noise. My etorque generator/motor don't make any noise that I can hear. And I don't even notice my transmission downshifting when coming to a stop.

Hard downshift is how my daughter describes it. Most noticeable at lower speeds coming to a stop it seems. It's her 3rd Ram 1500 and she says the experience is unique to this eTorque model.
Since my last post, its been to the selling dealership 3 times with this issue and the horrible noise it makes on tickover.

Dealership says the noise (sounds like a bad bearing) is normal for this model....

Yesterday they reset the eTorque yet again and apparently changed some fluid this time.

Its a lease and as much as she loves the Ram she will be looking at something else next time.

I'm glad you like eTorque, that doesn't mean to say that the manufacturer should make products with faults and then state "its normal"
I know more about transmissions than you think, as Jeep found out when I sued them and won.

I post here looking for input that I can't get from a dealership.

My 2022 does not make any noise, down shift is very smooth, auto shutoff works flawlessly. Sounds like eTorque bearing failure. Somtimes ANC can make all kind of noise but not squealing?

I have a '21 Laramie Sport 5.7 eTorque. I love everything abouty truck except for the eTorque. Sitting in drive thru lane at McDonald's or otherwise, I have almost his 3 vehicles when I eased up on the brake and that expensive alternator tried to shove me into the guy in front. I can GUARANTEE there is NO gas saving with mine either. I get about 18 mpg combined no matter what. I don't give a damn about mpg. Hate paying for it, but you buy a truck for the gas mileage, you're an idiot. You buy a truck because you need a truck and gas mileage is part of the price.
I forgot one other thing that ****** me off Auto Start/Stop. Besides the Expensive alternator trying to make me hit the guy in front of me, that BS about "seamless" starting is just that. Damned near broke my neck the 1st time I noticed it. I wish it could be PERMANENTLY disabled. Temp fix cost me $100 for a cable, but it works.

Outside of that, I love my truck. Put 50K miles on it in one year. Maybe one more year then get a new one. Maybe by then they'll have that expensive alternator fixed.

Yeah, *monkey...I have it because the truck came with it. It came with good reviews from eggheads with engineering degrees, not from mechanics. I know at least 20 mechanics that feel like I do. You like it...good for you. I don't...and If I could figure out how to do it, I'd rip the piece of crap out...AND I DO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

No one has hated it so much to learn the process of eliminating the etorque and once you develop the parts list going back, I guarantee that is where etorque hate mysteriously is never to exist again.
