2022 Ram 1500 Laramie 6’4” Bed – Rear Suspension Squeak/Creak During Suspension Articulation. Anyone Else?


Hi everyone,


I have a 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 with the 6’4” bed and the two-piece driveshaft, and since the truck was practically new, I’ve noticed a persistent squeaking/creaking noise coming from the rear suspension.


The noise is very easy to reproduce. It happens when the rear suspension articulates, such as:

• Driving over speed bumps.
• Entering driveways at an angle.
• Driving on twisting or uneven roads.
• Going up or down the steep, winding hills where I live in White Rock, BC.

It’s a rubber-like squeak or creak, almost as if the rear suspension is twisting. Since it’s a 4x4 truck, I expect the suspension to articulate, but I don’t expect it to make this much noise.


I recently found an old work order from when the truck was relatively new, and the dealer had documented a rear suspension noise. At the time, they noted that the noise wasn’t present when the truck was carrying a load, which makes sense because the suspension is under compression. However, when the truck is unloaded—as it is most of the time—the noise is very noticeable.


For those of you with the 6’4” bed and two-piece driveshaft, have you experienced the same issue?


I’m taking the truck back to the dealer, but before I do, I’m curious:

• Has anyone else experienced this on a 2019–2024 Ram 1500 with the coil-spring rear suspension, particularly trucks equipped with the 6’4” bed and two-piece driveshaft?
• If so, what ended up being the cause?
• Was it the coil spring isolators, sway bar bushings, end links, track bar, shock mounts, control arm bushings, or something else?
• Did the dealer successfully repair it, and if so, what parts were replaced?
• Has anyone received a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) repair or warranty fix that permanently resolved the issue?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what ultimately solved the problem. Thanks in advance for any insight you can share!

I've not experienced or heard of anybody having this issue. I think i would be doing my best to try and diagnose the issue myself, rather than let a bunch of clowns drive my truck around and toss parts at it (not always the case, but often it is).

Have you done any low speed driving that causes the noise, while someone is outside walking next to the truck to try and pinpoint the noise? Or mount a go pro under there?

The issue I’m trying to solve is a persistent squeaking noise from the rear suspension. It only happens at low speeds when the rear suspension is articulating—for example, when driving slowly over speed bumps, backing over uneven surfaces, or climbing a twisting hill where one side of the suspension is moving differently than the other.


It’s not a high-speed noise, and it’s not a general rattle. It’s a distinct squeak, almost like a dry plastic or rubber bushing that isn’t lubricated.


The reason I’m convinced something isn’t right is that I’ve watched other Ram 1500s drive over the same speed bumps, and they don’t make this noise. Mine is noticeably louder.


I also have a copy of an early service work order from when the truck had approximately 7,000 km, and it already mentions a rear suspension concern. The truck now has about 45,000 km, so I believe there may be an underlying issue that has existed since early in its life.


For context, the truck is a 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4x4 with the 6’4” box, equipped with the 5.7L HEMI (non-eTorque). I have the Mopar 409 extended warranty.


Under warranty, the truck has already had numerous legitimate repairs, including:

• Radiator replacement
• Front upper and lower control arms
• Rear upper and lower control arms
• Complete two-piece driveshaft replacement
• Radio replacement
• Several other warranty repairs

All of these repairs were diagnosed and completed through the dealership under warranty.


Overall, I absolutely love the truck. The HEMI runs great, I like the longer 6’4” bed, and the Laramie trim is exactly what I wanted. Fuel economy isn’t its strongest point, but that’s part of owning a HEMI.


My only concern is this rear suspension squeak. When the suspension twists and articulates at low speed, something clearly isn’t right.


I’d really appreciate any suggestions, ideas, or experiences that anyone in the community might have. Thank you.
