I took the power running boards off my new Laramie as I don’t like the road splatter up the side of my truck. I added fixed factory steps in their place.
There is no current way to remove the automatic step feature from the vehicle programming to have the error message removed. It comes on when opening the door or slowing down when driving.
I thought having the electric step motors under the vehicle plugged in would be a quick way to make it think the steps were still there, but there are no built in stops without the hinge assembly- still has an error on the dash from this.
Anyone have any suggestions on a solution for this?

I’m not really a fan of mud flaps, the look more than the function, you could probably find some that would keep your doors clean.
I would not be able to do this but search the ags delete, members remove the slats & then add a bolt/ bracket to fool the motor that the slats are still there.
Sorry can’t provide more advice, hopefully some members with more knowledge will chime in, with better suggestions.

There is an option to disable the power running boards, my 2021 has it in the setting menu. You might try ticking that check box. I have Weathertec mudflaps, and rear box boards that go all the way to the body, and I still get a lot of crap on the sides of the truck running in mud.

If you double click on the pictures you can zoom in on them.

The current factory running boards are no where near as effective as the ones I had on my 1996. These did a much better job of keeping crap and rocks off the PU. This has 280,000 lklms, about 75% not on pavement, and that is the factory paint.

POWER SIDE STEPS — IF EQUIPPED
The Power Side Steps will extend a step for
easier entry and exit of the vehicle.
When configured for “Auto” mode, the Power
Side Steps will deploy when any of the doors are
opened, or when the deploy setting is activated
through the touchscreen. When configured for
“Store” mode, the steps will not deploy unless
the setting is selected manually through the
Controls menu within the touchscreen.
If the vehicle speed exceeds 5 mph (8 km/h), or
if the retract setting is selected within Uconnect
Settings Ú page 258, the steps will retract
