Hello. I am making this post my for my Dad who isn't very technologically inclined. He owns a 2025 Ram 1500 Longhorn Limited with the High Output Engine, and he would like to hardwire a dash camera so he can have 24/7 parking recording

In order to have these 24/7 features is he going to have to have this camera hardwired to a fuse somewhere in the vehicle? He had mentioned that his truck has an accessory battery that powers the perimeter function, so it would seem like that would be a good source of power to ensure the main battery doesn't get drained by the camera. Is this realistic, or is there not actually a way to have it powered by that secondary battery? I had seen mention of the cigarette lighter plug staying powered while the vehicle isn't on, but I am not sure if that is true, or if that would drain his battery. He does drive the truck about 5/6 days of the week.

It would be super helpful is anyone knew anything about connecting dash cam via hardwire to this specific truck as I am kind of lost here. Fortunately, my personal vehicle seems to have niche products that solve issues like this, but I'm not aware if they exist for his truck. Sorry if any of this is lacking in information needed to answer the question. I'm not a huge car/truck person so I am working with limited knowledge here. Thank you to whoever has answers or insight

I have a 2019 Limited, and I bought a dash camera that plugs directly into the rear-view mirrors wiring harness. There are several versions, but I have the Vexing v1 camera, I bought it from Amazon.

Mine records when driving, has night vision, and auto save when you push a button. There are other ones that power on with motion or when the vehicle is hit. Mine works great, I've had it for about 2yrs now, and it does video and audio.

I need to know what wire harness you bought for that.... shouldn't matter that I have a 22 bighorn

Wouldn’t that be “key-on” power only and not 24x7?

We have a “Rove” brand of dash-camera…that, when parked, goes into a “watchful” mode. If any movement to the vehicle occurs…the camera awakens and records sound and both front and back cameras record.

When my wife’s car was side-swiped while parked in a parking lot…the camera recorded the offending vehicle backing up…the driver got out and walked to the front of THEIR vehicle to inspect THEIR damage…then walked to wife’s vehicle…glanced All-Around for any witnesses….then got in their car and drove-away.
Our insurance instructed us to make a police-report. The police saw the video, which recorded not only the other driver but also their vehicle I.D. and License-plates.
Our Insurance is now going-after Their Insurance, and our deductible was waived.

The ROVE camera came complete with instructions and “piggy-back” fuse-wiring, to plug directly into Any “hot” fuse (such as your “cigar lighter” (aux charging port) without any need to modify vehicle wiring.

It is capable of recording in-front and In-back of your vehicle (if, for instance, someone rams you from behind.)

About $100
