2500 shocks

Have 125000 miles on my 2500 5.7. was wondering the life span of factory shocks. Truck is equiped with coil springs and I added a pair of air bags in the rear. I tow a 4-6k lb trailer daily and occasionally a payload of 3k lbs. The ride is pretty bad, I know it comes with the hd territory. What are the best ride quality shocks that will still handle the load ratings? Thanks.

30,000 miles is the time to replace.

Im at 50,000 almost and plan to replace when we hit speing as im getting new tires then.

I will replace mine by spring (might be 100K at that point). Thinking Bilstein shocks though the stockers that are still on the truck at the moment are doing a good job so far.

I have the same truck. My leveled Zone Offroad front shocks (had them on since new) were shot by 60K. I replaced at 70K and it was a night and day difference. The old shocks collapsed and had 0 rebound. Rear shocks were mostly fine. 1/3 travel was loose but the rest was tight (compression resistance).

My truck came with blue and yellow Bilsteins. I have leveled and put on fox. the ride is awesome.

I've never knew that mileage was the key factor on shock replacement.

I'm coming up on 60K and tow a TT often. But I do not see any negative driving characteristics. Rides smooth.

Yes, mileage is the principle wear factor for shock absorbers. Bouncing them up and down is fatigue cycles, wears on oil and gas (nitrogen) seals. Ride quality gradually lessens over time - it is hard to feel it. Push down on the rear end hard. If vehicle bounces more than once before stopping, shocks are worn out.

Bilstein claims their shocks are high enough quality to last over 100k miles. I run Bilstein's in all my vehicles. Haven't had to replace yet.

I think I'm going with them. I saw a video of youtube; it doesn't look like it is too difficult - no jacking required.
