Is it worth buying the extended warranty early, or waiting a couple of years?

It normally shouldn't matter but there is a possibility of a price increase or a downgrade in services provided. On the other hand if you delay you can keep your money working for you although it's not a lot of money if you buy from one of the discounters.

Another voice, hold your money and look at 3rd party near end of warranty coverage. See how it has been and if it seems to be rock solid or problem child. And put $100 a month away, you will have up to 3.6k to pay for warranty or just keep for repairs

I went sooner for the MOPAR MaxCare.

I have already had 2 visits after my basic warranty expired and have had more work done than I paid for the ESP and I'm only $200 out of pocket ($100 deductible). I'm already making my list for the next visit.

If you go the MaxCare route the price is bumped at 12K and 24K miles (as SniperDroid mentioned). If you are considering a MOPAR ESP then sooner is better. Yes the new truck one is retroactive to when the truck was first bought but you save in the long run. Buying a 5 year new truck ESP now is cheaper than a 2 year used ESP the day after your basic warranty expires.

I have no experience with 3rd party vendors that tron67j is referring to. I have read of very few people that have been happy with them so did not pursue that option.

I went the MOPAR ESP route because:

1. It is attached to my VIN. No matter where I go every RAM dealership knows that I'm covered and what is covered. I pay my $100 when I pick my truck up and drive home. No issues with 3rd party paying or me having to pay and get reimbursed.

2. MOPAR ESP will never go out of business. If Stellantis is not making enough money on the program then they'll raise the rates (or MSRP of vehicles) next year to get closer to their profit goals.

3. It is pro-rated refundable if I sell the truck. Not sure if 3rd party does this (or how easy it is) but if I sell my truck I send a copy of the sale and MOPAR sends a check.

Just my .02
