I just noticed that my 1500 gets incredibly high MPG, supposedly, and even with headwinds i get around 24 MPG. In the city i get 25, and on the highway with no winds i get 30. Truck has 453K on her, and i’m starting to wonder if the cluster is dying even though i can get 500-520 miles out of a tank.

If you do some basic math you can find out exactly what MPG you are getting.

500 miles divided by 26 gallons equals roughly 19.25 mpg, which sounds more like it for a 4.7 / 6 speed with 3.55 gears. That's roughly what my old 2013 regular cab shortbox 4.7 / 6 speed with 3.55's got. On the highway with no headwinds and the cruise set at 55 mph,it would pull down roughly 21 mpg,and that was about it's best, around town it would pull down about 18mpg driving with an egg under the foot.

That sounds more like it. Strange how far off the cluster is though, the cluster in my 300 is pretty close.

Geez you're a Saint! I've never seen that... i mean 500 miles on a tank is proof I guess that you're actually getting that kind of mileage. Unless someone is filling your tank behind your back or you're bull****ting us, it sounds like you got one heck of a truck

She’s an amazing vehicle and the only reason she still drives is because she’s that good. Saved my life more than once, and she still fires up beautifully. Needs a new idler pulley and belt, but that’s to be expected.

That's pretty good mileage for a 4.7. I had one in 2005 with 5 speed and 392 gears and got 21-22 on the highway. Now with 2011 with hemi, 5 speed and 392s I get 21 on highway. Have gotten 24.5 on trip with 92 octane non ethanol gas I got traveling through Ohio. Can't get non ethanol gas here in NJ. Had two 4.7 motors in a 2005 and 2006 Ram and both had exhaust, intake, programmer and 392 gears and they both really ran good and never had to do any repairs.

Yeah, i love the 4.7 majorly. She’s an amazing engine, and recently i’m thinking about decommissioning her out of 462K miles of service, fixing her up completely and then getting a 2020 1500 preferably with the 3.6L Pentastar.
