I have searched up and down. I like the stock rim. I understand it is a 7Jx17 or 7 inch wide rim. I am wanting to put 285/65R17 on the truck as I want a wider tire with the same overall diameter. Everything I see says 8in minimum rim width for the 285/65R17.
Has anyone tried this?
Is anyone running or have run this combo?

Truck is a 2019 1500 Classic Express with 5.7L Hemi and factory tire is 265/70R17

I am running Cooper AT3 4s size 285/70 17 on stock rims with a leveled truck. No issues at all. Love the tires.

It’ll have a bubbly look but shouldn’t be an issue. A reputable tire shop will not put your safety in jeopardy. If they think it’s a bad idea I’d listen to them.

Tiped on ifone using Tapatalk and auto correct. Can’t you tell?

Reputable tire shops will more likely have an issue with it. Small mom/pop ones won't. Can you run them ? sure you wouldn't be the first or the last. I used to run 285/70/17 on 7" wide whees without any issues other than more wear towards the center of the tire as the tire doesn't make full contact with the ground especially more accentuated if you're going to be pumping them to 45-50psi or higher.

If you want a tire that can be run on 7" wheels then look into 255/80/17 or 34x10.5x17

Good luck.
