Hey guys, this morning while going to work my truck shut off at a red light. I didn't even hear or feel the engine **** off maybe it was because of my radio. But anyway I just hit the gas and wasn't going anywhere and I saw that the batter gauge went down, not all the way but down significantly. This happened to me 2 weeks ago at a light as well and I thought it was because my battery terminals were corroded so I cleaned them up. When the truck shut off I put it in park and I had not problem starting it up again and it ran fine. It ran sluggish for another 500 ft and I felt it wanted to stall again but it didn't. I never had any codes pop up which is surprising as well.

Now I am worried. I don't want my truck dying on me all the time.

What can it be? Alternator, battery, sensors? I didn't get a chance to look under the hood yet but maybe a vacuum leak? Don't think it can be the 02 sensors because I replaced them in July along with new cats.

I sure hope it is not the fuel pump

What should I look for? Like I said this inst consistent and after the first time I was not worried, but since it happened again I am worried now.

How many miles are on it? Does your RPM gauge go down below 500 at idle? First thought was fuel pump. Have you been getting gas at the same service station?

It was at idle just over 500rpm after I turned the truck on from what I can remember. I am going to check it again when I start it up again after work.

It has 65k miles on it right now.

I always fill up at shell or Mobil with 93 octane.

Ok so I drove back home. The truck is consistently idling at 600 rpm. Not sure if that is good or not.

When I first start it up it idles at about 800 rpm, then I give some gas and it sits at about 5 or 600 rpm..

Not sure what to do. Should I bring it to a shop and have them test the fuel pressure?

DO you still have the original battery in it??? That could cause the problem, plus if the battery is gone it could fry the alternator which would cause the truck to shut off also. As far as the idle goes between 550 and 750 is normal for most gasoline engines.

Hmm I am not sure if its the original battery or not. I am going to clean all the sensors now and clean the TB as well. I mat just get a new battery anyway bc there is a good chance it is the original battery from when I got the truck last year.

I dont think it is the alternator but there is a good chance it can be an old battery.

The damm rain wont let me look under the hood. But I did look at the gas cap and noticed that there is a ton of moister in there. It has been there for as long as I can remember but does that have anything to do with it?

I changed the pcv valve a few months ago. Not sure the the pcv system is whats causing it.

Anyway hopefully I can get under there and clean the sensors.

Any good fuel cleaner for the injectors I should add?
