My truck is a 318 5.2 manual 5 speed .

It has cat then CB dumped under the cab ... original owner

The CB is a quiet one not the extreme. Sounded stock to me .

I took the CB off and am running no muffler .... it sounds throaty and does not cackle back , that I like .

Question ? Should I throw a new muffler on it ? I do not know the back pressure specs on the 318 .
I do recall on my red SC Hemi that no muffler straight pipe I lost low end because not enough back pressure .

I drove it and its still feels the same as when I had the muffler on it .. just louder .

Thoughts

I would just run duals out, that would cause it to have some extra back pressure then just being dumped underneath...... I believe lol

It aint easy.... bein' Easy ;)

I ran a Dynomax Race Bullet on mine...got a video if ya wanna hear it. Ran the exhaust open behind the muffler, no turndowns nothing. Never even a hint of drone or cackeling.

Yep...sawzalled off the old muffler, muffler clamped the race bullet on and rode out. I was also running the 14x3 air cleaner with a K&N filter rather than the stock ****** air box.

I'm running the same muffler on mine. 2.5" inlet/outlet and dumped right before the rear axle

I know mine likes back pressure. When I got it, I replaces the rusted out factory muffler with a FM Super 44 and it ran the same, just louder.
Swapped that one out for the dynomax and felt a pretty good increase in the low end and it seemed to smooth out the idle a little

Yeah, I think the Race Bullet really compliments a CAI and makes up for any low end TQ you might lose when adding a CAI. These magnum engines tend to like mass air flow more than colder air...my believe is with the 14x3, even though you get a lot of warmer air from the engine bay, you benefit greater from the mass amount of air the engine gets...then the race bullet, as free flowing as it is, just makes it better.
