So I noticed the 3rd brake light is out on my 2012. I haven't opened it up yet to get the bulb number, but I did find a wiring diagram online that shows 2 bulbs. It seems a little coincidental for both bulbs to go at once, but then I noticed that no where on the diagram did it show a module for the blinking lights. My 3rd brake blinks 3 times then lights steady when the brake is pressed. I saw a post here from 2017 where folks had questioned that and all the replies spoke to aftermarket modules. This isn't aftermarket. I bought the truck brand new and the brake light has always acted this way. So what is my circuit really like??

I suppose both bulbs could have gone at the same time, or I just didn't notice that one was out for a while. Basically, I want to get a heads up from you guys if there is more to this circuit when I open it up to replace bulbs.

Life is strange, I wouldn't think a simple light would lead to asking questions.

The 3rd brake light on newer models has 3 bulbs. 1 on each end and 1 in the middle. The middle one in the red section of the light comes on during braking and blinks 3 times when braking. The outer 2 flash with the blinker turn signals.

When you purchase an aftermarket LED, it is red when applying brakes and half of it flashes with the blinkers in white depending on which turn signal is selected.

At least that is what happens on my 14 RT. I have a ARE cap on the 16 and 24 trucks and it's LED and follows the above for LEDs.

My experience

I finally went and looked at it. It's just a single bulb, not like the circuits I saw online or the one from Bigskyroadglide (thanks for the reply). Turns out it's just a single blown bulb.

I was getting myself prepared for weirdness because I have some crazy electrical problems with interior lights. Not the case with the 3rd brake light.
