I got 6.4l hemi for free with less than 100k. Tech diaged it as a rod knock when I was watching and knew it was something way easier and cheaper. I acquired the engine and replaced 2 mds lifters and went through to make sure nothing else was bad. I installed the engine and bought a 2009 5.7L vvt computer and sent it off to have it programmed for the 6.4l. Computer is back and Installed and no codes exist.
Everything plugged in and new vvt wire ran to correct spot in ecm connector and all wiring checked and double checked. Vehicle cranks and no start. Had 10 gal+ more fuel and pump is workong properly.
Unplug crank sensor and vehicle cranks long then starts but cel is on for crank sensor cir high input (typical with sensor unplugged). Can't do relearn. On cam crank because of existing code for crank sensor in pcm. Any ideas would help I've had this going on for about 6 months now and I miss driving my truck...
Thanks in advance
Mike

Just an idea since I’m not sure but is the reluctor wheel the same? Just shooting a thought.

What year is the 6.4 out of? You're using a 2009 PCM, but if the engine is 13+ then the wheel is different.

Just out of morbid curiosity, what accessory drive style did you go with?

Apparently he didn't lol. What crank sensor are you using?
I've tried 2 different 6.4 crank sensors
The tuner guy is a complete tool. Granted he knows what he's doing to an extent I guess but getting a hold of him is like almost impossible. I've still got my 5.7 crank sensor which I've tried too and still nothing ......

The crank sensor may be fine but if the tooth count on the reluctor is wrong the engine will not run. Need to have it double checked. Maybe talk to another tuner and have them redo your tune. Who do you have tuning currently?

B&g performance outta Michigan. I just tried calling this guy again and no answer. He's really gonna make me start giving him a bad review and turning his ass in to the bbb. I paid this guy 500 dollars to reprogram my ecu and he don't wanna answer his phone when there's a problem...... I have spent so much time and money sending my computer back and forth 3 diff times as one of the times he programmed it with the wrong v.i.n. and put a "v" where there should've been a "u" and my truck was like " nope won't start, wrong Vin buddy" well that was about another month to get computer to him and have returned with the correct Vin after I sent the registration back to him with my ecu.....
So what do I do now considering I'm kinda at a loss on how to get the proper tone wheel count verified ?

Contact another tuner. If your on Facebook you could try high performance rams or tuned rams. Both pages have great help.

Update: just heard back from the tuner and he said the cranksensor needs to be a 2009 sensor for whatever reason its diff and that should be my problem.
He Says the tone wheel on the crank is the same that's programmed I'm the tune.
I will be going to pick one up this evening after work and give it a shot. I will definitely be keeping everyone posted on the the status.

Update: 2009 1500 5.7L crank sensor has to be installed on the 6.4L engine with a 2009 ecu. For whatever reason the 08 sensor or the original 6.4L sensor will not work. Apparently from my understanding from the tuner person, if your doing a 6.4L swap in a 3rd gen 1500, you need
1) 2009 OR 2010 1500 5.7l ecu
2) Run vvt sol. Wire to pcm
3) send ecu out to have it programmed for 6.4L
4) PATIENTS IS A MUST.
You will hear Time and time again over and over " it'll be worth it in the end when it's figured out and running.
5) 6.4L engine (stock 5.7L harness will work if you don't want or can't afford to change transmissions at the time.
6) Make sure your tuner person is reliable knowledgeable and informed on your swap in detail so it doesn't become a headache
7) Once it done and running ......have fun with your near 500 hp 6.4L in a 3rd gen half ton.
Thank you all for letting me post ..

Well of course the 08 sensor wouldn't work, the CAN bus protocol itself is different between the generations. I didn't think you would've tried that lol. Need to clarify that this will only work in a later 06-08 3rd gen; 02-05 is PCI bus.

Now I'm curious to see how long your RFE lasts behind 470hp/480 lb-ft (it most likely is the earlier tune, you have power steering and you haven't said if you kept the active intake or not) lol. Post some pics.
