I second that. A chip and good spark plugs. I have found both to help with fuel economy while increasing performance. Like i get highway 18 to 20 MPG depending on the wind direction.

Superchips. I am running the Edge CS.

It might have a higher performance program from stock but i am just guessing. I have been impressed with my 4.7s power:)

4.56's and programmer.

This for starters. More than that depends on how deep into it you want to get. The 08+ intake manifold can be adapted. HO cams would be great, but they're like platinum. I have yet to hear definitively if the 08+ heads and/or cams are usable on the older blocks.

The best "MOD" for a 4.7l is installing an egg behind the gas pedal. If you depress the throttle too many times without it your motor will go POP!

I think it would be interesting to do a test of each major chip on the same truck in the same conditions and see what the real differences are of each brand. Performance vs fuel economy etc.

Muffler choice

What brand of muffler do yall suggest?? I do not plan to make it dual exhaust nor do I want to dump it before axle. Just a good upgrade from stock??
Thrush turbo muffler?? Or a chambered muffler?? Borla..Magnaflo??

I would get a maganflow. They seem to produce some hp based on dyno tests I've seen. They sound good too.

Whats included with the police package?

Spot lights, heavy duty suspension, all fluids have external coolers, 3.55 gears in the differential, quick ratio steering rack n pinion, it handles like a go kart,,heavy duty brakes, tow package and a ton of other stuff. It is a really cool truck, and it runs real strong,,,try high 13s at about 105 in the 1/4 mile,,,i have yet to find the top speed. 5 speed allison transmission and other cool stuff,,

and the odometer just turned 60,000 original miles

I run a Superchips 3842 on my '02 with the performance 91 tune and the truck is behaving quite well. Actually runs better than with the Milleage XS tune, and I am in the process of calculating the MPG's but it looks as though the Performance 91 is not having an adverse effect... might even be getting better MPG's... go figure...

If you have deep pockets, the folks at AirRam.com can offer some great stuff to spruce up a 4.7L.

Have fun!

Really with any engines now days they sky is the limit. If you really want to modify your 4.7 you should start with head work (valves, springs and cam) while you have all that apart go ahead and do the timing set since they like to fail. Doing this will not only help your performance but increase reliability over the over the not so great stick parts. It may sound like a lot of work but it's really not. It can be done over a weekend with a buddy and a couple 12 packs.
