Hey Quikkota that picture of the cam is from my motor with 260,000 on it . I picked up a motor , eight HP 75 trans , transfer case front drive shaft .that is the motor you saw in the earlier pictures that one has flaking on the cam he told me it had 47 thou on it . Russell at sound German is going to have a wiring harness in a month and a half I'm putting that 8 HP in there going to need a tune anyways I'm trying to get everything in place to just swap over you read so many things get rid of the MDS keep the MDS. I think it is just poor quality materials myself you could pull my dipstick at 3000 miles and it look like I just put oil in there.that intake number two nothing to do with MDS. if I'm going to get a tune I need to wait to get it tuned for the 8 speed not the six speed that's in it. I'm not just using it for towing it's my everyday just wanted it a little more out of it course with the good cam I'm sure it will have better performance.

Oh, I gotcha. That sideways lifter and trashed cam is usually on much higher mileage engines. Makes sense.

Sounded like most people recommended running the lower mileage engine even with flaking cam surfaces. That is odd but may not be worth tearing apart. I would avoid the 5W-20 and run something a little thicker.

The 8 speed is a great transmission and will probably make the truck feel more powerful. The lower gears are pretty steep.

Yes, I had a 4.7L Dakota with a Viper T56 6 speed in it and a Hotchkis suspension. Set up for road course racing.

They don't have a good rep in the Hi-po world.Basically you have the OEM lifters or the Johnson lifters with axle oiling. The Johnsons require a high volumn oil pump, and so far i haven't seen any reports on their life expectancy, and whether they'll last a 100,000 miles or not.But they do have a good rep in the Hi-po world, but most guys in that game don't put a 100,000 miles on their engines with out going through it several times and refreshing the engine

Spend 13 minutes and watch this video as it's a good video on the hemi's oiling system.About the 3:45 mark you'll see the main bearing oil galley Hagar is referancing.

This is my buddies Hemi swapped Dakota that runs bottom 11's.He'd just completed the Miles of Mayam with it this week, which is where you make roughly 1200 miles in a week and visit 5 of the local tracks.

Those Gen II Dakotas are really light and even a stock 318 makes them seem fast.

That gold Gen III looks like my friend's truck who lives in Michigan and put a 392 in it. I sold mine to a guy up there and he also bought a 392 out of a Challenger. He is trying to find a 6 speed from one of the newer cars. Not sure why he didn't use my old T56.

If you're talking about my buddies truck,it's Alberta based and he's put a healthy 5.7 /8 speed in it,and has owned the truck for probably 15 years or more now.The truck runs very bottom 11's,just a smidge off the 10's at 4,000ft, I doubt it has any connection to Michigan as the truck was originally sold in southern Alberta when it was new, :waytogo: :Big Laugh:

That's funny I live in Michigan and my truck is from Canada . made here of course . for Dusty the motor going in is a 2022. my truck is 2013 sport . I checked every option out the best for me was MMX NSR NTR MDS delete . 1511 psi springs fresh oil pump . I'm sure I will get what I need back out of it . the truck owes me nothing even if I put 10 grand into it still way cheaper than new it has everything I need .

Different truck then, yeah. That's pretty fast. I had a turbo and intercooler ready to go for my Dakota but the engine doesn't really handle much boost over 6 psi well without some sort of crazy methanol setup.

well got the parts in for cam swap of course more issues look at top of valves and one pic of rocker arm pitting in center and edge . has anyone dealt with this i can use a surface grinder to remove but don't know allowable tolerance.

so taking my 260000 mile 5.7 apart intake lobe wiped the retainer yoke for lifters very loose will not hold lifter any more look's to me that the lifter turned in bore. because of radius on cam
Thats a lot of wear. Just curious, how did it sound before you figured it out?

Thanks.

I'm surprised those are off 47,000 mile motor i put the valves in a v block and checked squareness three were not square at all so I checked the worn ones were .008 thou longer than rest so I dusted the top of all of them and deburred the edge's 7 of them were razor sharp from the get go . they are all well within the factory spec and square now . replacing 4 rocker arms

Wow! I've seen a number of 5.7s apart and on some the valve components looked better than those at 150,000+ miles. What kind of lubrication strategy are you using?

this is from a motor I picked up to put in my ram , I don't think the previous owner cared about the oil. my engine had 260000 on it and yes it look's better . it all good now . decided on small mmx cam mds delete fresh oil pump and throwing a 8speed in it in a few months . I see a lot of people like the redline and purple filter . I think ill try it . not sure guess I should figure it out don't know what the overall best product for these 5.7s is
