......and 50th reply. Now I can list some stuff for sale. I am interested in this discussion. I can’t hear any pinging on mine but my Subaru did it all the time and the manual called it normal. Go figure

The gas powered trucks run lean by design. When towing a load it is adisable to use a higher octane level fuel, espcially in warmer ambient temps, to avoid detonation and losing power as the computer starts to pull timing.

For instance, if you are normally using 87 octane fuel, try going to 89 or higher. If running 89, try some 91/9 or higher.

I got better tow mileage and detonation went away when I went to 92 octane fuel.

I'm going to give the 92 a shot on our next trip to the lake. It's not horrible like I said it's not even noticeable over the stereo. So could be normal too like others have said. Or maybe my pedal Commander is causing it

I have never heard any spark knock on either of my two Hemi's and I've ran some of the worst rott gutt 87 that money could buy. The only thing that I've noticed with the cheaper grade/brands of gas is worse mileage and nothing else. The best results are with Shell 89 or ethanol free gas (which I rarely buy due to being .40 more per gallon than 89)As I recall a little bit of knock is OK according to the manual. Every GM truck that I've ever owned with an LS motor pinged lightly with 87 even though that was the grade that was recommended. I got a chance to drive my old 2001 Silverado last weekend and she was still going strong at 197K. I guarantee you she spent a great deal of her life with a modest amount of KR going on and it hasn't hurt anything yet. Unless its pinging like a motherf....r when you stomp it to the floor I wouldn't worry about it. If you run a tank of 93 through it and you still hear knocking it probably ain't what you think it is. Of course as mentioned earlier data logging is the only way to know for sure.

2017 5.7 16k miles feel like since I bought it has pinged when in the 4k rpm range under load. Especially when towing and in tow mode. Never does it in nornal driving. Just under load like towing my boat.

Never ran anything except 89 in it. Multiple brands doesn't seem to change. It's not super loud if the radio is on you don't hear it. If window down and the radio is off you def hear it.

Obviously still under warranty but feel like it's one of those things a dealer won't be able to replicate. Anyone else? Ideas? Normal?
