within the next few months i could be purchasing a ram 1500, not sure of used or new. I currently have an 05 reg cab short box and like it. I havent decided on 4th or 5th gen. I dont tow much, when i do its a riding mower or a couple snowmobiles. Mpg is not of concern. Id prefer the sporty challenger looking hood. I also prefer reg cab short box but that really limits my selection (just the wife and i). I have a few questions.

If i went with a 2019 classic, are there a bunch of 1 year only parts that dont fit other 4th gen trucks cause its a classic?

Is there a certain cutoff year to look for ex: stick with a 201X or newer cause they came with or fixed or redesigned something.

What gear ratio should i look for?

Any other things to make sure i look for the truck to have?

For gears go 3.55 or 3.92, I have 3.21 and what a mistake that is. The fuel mileage difference between the 3.21 and the other gear choices is insignificant.

What he said ^^^^

Most of us seem to like the 3.92 gears and posi rear. If you are not worried about gas mileage in my opinion go with these options.

The 2019 classic and the rest of the Gen 4, 2014 and up are the same. Parts are interchangeable. The 2009 thru 2013 are almost the same, body components all work. But in 2014 Ram went to a different computer , PCM, and 8 speed tranny. I am sure a few other things changed but those two are the biggies.

Good luck.

2014+ will give you the Challenger hood(sport option)/projector headlights and most importantly, the 8 Speed transmission.

Actually the sport hood was available well before 2014, had it on both my 11 and 13. Just some sports didn't have them as it was an option you had to select (same applies for 2014+).

8 speed and projectors started in 13 (had both on mine).

Agreed, 3.92 LSD is the way to go. And I'd say the only difficulty you'd have with parts on a 2019 classic, is having to specify every time its for a classic so you don't get 5th gen parts.

I bought a 2019 Classic, liked the tried and true. My 3rd 4th Gen, love the looks and was way more parts available.
the 3.21's were fine for me with 35's

They dont make a reg cab 5 gen hemi, so that makes it easy? Unless the changed something I thought no rg cab. I like my rcsb as well. Research the 6 speed versus 8 speed and see what you would prefer, both have their strong parts. If I had to choose, I'd like the 3.92's with the 6 or 5 speed (2010). If I had lower the 3.92's I'd prefer the 8 speed and deal with it's quirks. It is a great transmsion, just hard to service.

I guess they do make a reg cab, so they went away from what the originally said on that.

I still like 4 gens better, they heat up the difs and transmision with the cooler, so one cooling system to cool and warm many componants. A lot of complicated pieces on 5 gen.

you and i seem to be a rare breed liking the reg cab short box. helps not having kids. funny thing is that reg cab short boxes are what is preferred when restoring older trucks.

I just left that group due to necessity but I will always love the RCSB, the extra performance is great and I prefer the look of them as well. Had 3 straight RCSB before I just recently got my crewcab:

And now my current 2017 5.7/8speed/3.92 LSD
