4x4 light will not go off

2013 Ram 2500 we just got and went to put it in fourwheel drive for the first time and it engaged into four wheel drive just fine, went to put it back to two wheel drive which it did disengage, however the 4x4 light on the dash stayed on and also now it will it not renengage into four wheel drive even when in neutral etc

(mega-dumb question... are you sure you put it in Neutral before shifting back to 2WD?)
