ive been going back and forth trying to decide wether to replace my radio with aftermarket or to upgrade to the 8.4 radio, I decided to keep it factory and upgrade to the 8.4 radio so i dont have to buy all the modules.. etc..to get the aftermarket radio working.
i picked up a single zone bezel and i found an 8.4 radio out of a low milage 2014 Cherokee , the salvage yard doesnt know if it was the Vp3 or Vp4 radio, i figured for the price, its worth it just to have bigger screen and i can add the nav later if it ends up being the Vp3. They did provide me with the vehicles vin. All i need now is to get the wire harness, the fan module and the 911 bypass.
Installation should be straight forward im assuming.
Anyone have any issues upgrading your radio?

Several of us have updated to the 8.4 and have had no problems. If you purchase the harness and the 911 bypass plug fron M2 Mods who is a vendor on tne forum you should be fine. I have had my VP4 in my truck for three years and it works great.

Im looking forward to doing this, i was going to wait a while but i found a great deal on the 8.4 radio, climate bezel and the fan module at the same time.
The salvage yard wasnt sure if the radio is a Vp3 or Vp4 as they already removed and packed the radio however it came out of a fully loaded Cherokee limited so chances are that its a Vp4 model, either way ill be happy.

I can't see what truck you have through taptalk. When you say you already bought the fan module are you referring to the 4 to 7 speed conversion blower motor resistor or are you referring to the heater control module?

I have a 16 Tradesman 1500, my truck has the 7 speed blower, i got the 7 speed resistor from a 17 Laramie 1500, it matched the part number to the one listed on the 8.4 upgrade thread.

If you are referring to the blower motor resistor you don't need it since your truck already has a 7-speed fan. If you're referring to the heater control module then that's what you need. That might be what you're talking about I just wanted to make sure. To do the complete conversion on your truck you would need the radio, 8.4 bezel, 7-speed conversion harness, heater control module and the 911 delete plug.

I believe its the heater control module, its the one thats mounted by the glove box near the pass door, thats what i just got.
All i need now is the 7 speed harness and 911 plug from m2 mods and i should be good to go.

If the radio asks for a code after i install it, do i give the dealer the vin of the vehicle it came out of to get the code or do i use my vin#?
I do have the donor vin from 14 Cherokee that it came out of.

You will use the VIN number off of the vehicle it came out of and you also need the serial number off the back of the radio.

I recommend getting the unlock code before you even try to install the radio because it's going to ask for it and the radio will stay locked out until you enter it.
