So ive been looking for a carplay 8.4 uconnect and all the ones ive seen are $900+ for a decent conditioned, and i waa looking at other 8.4s and saw that the Jeep Cherookee DL radio has the exact same mounting points as. would it be possible to use that jeep radio onto the ram or would there be a problem?

**Update** After three hours at the dealership and $300, the tech found a bent pin on the antenna connection. Were it not for that, I’m pretty sure my upgrade would’ve been plug and play. Everything (climate control, phone, nav, XM/FM/AM) now works on the new-to-me radio.

The $300 is what I was quoted just to flash the new trailer brake controller, I added while replacing the radio, to the truck. Guess I got 2 1/2 hours of diagnosis/labor for free.

Original reply:
I think they’re interchangeable but maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in.

I replaced the 5” in my 2015 1500 Tradesman this morning with an 8.4” from a 2017 Cherokee. I have everything working except XM and nav. Error message on XM screen is “Check antenna. See dealer for service.” I’m hoping I just didn’t quite get the antenna plugged into the back of the new radio.
