Hey guys found a 5.7 from a Chrysler 300c. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. Would that engine work in mine?

Need to know the year of the Chrysler, but the short answer is yes as the basic engines are the same. But you will need to exchange intakes and accessories/front of the engine to make it compatible with the 03 Ram.

Not sure if it's the same deal, but a buddy of mine did the swap from a Chrysler 300 to a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I think along with all the accessories he also had to change the oil pan and the heads for some reason.

I have a 300c block in my truck, it will work just do as Greg mentioned and all will work. If it is an MDS motor like it prob will be you will want to change out the lifters.

If it's a '09+ VVT block it won't work, but if it's a block from '03-08 then they are the same, the timing cover, accessories, oil pan, and intake manifold are different and you'll need to change to the driverside dip stick vs the LX's passengerside one to fit the truck's headers. You can leave the lifters in place and just plug the MDS solenoids if it's an MDS block.

The system that kicks out 4 of the cylinders while maintaining a speed. Is your motor hurt or you just getting the 05 as a spare?

If it's an '05 block then you don't need to worry about the MDS, it doesn't have it.

Ok awesome and yeah I bought the truck and the engine was frozen up. Two connecting rods froze to the crank and ate it up. So I need a new crank so I found this engine from the 300 that comes with tranny, computer and wiring harness for 2k

Heads are the same. Different computer, harness, trans, and flexplate, so sell the ones that comes with the engine.

I would have a shop look at the heads first, it's quite possible they can easily be repaired. Or you can use those heads as cores to get a set of ported heads from any of the reputable hemi engine builders. I'm a firm believer in replacement time is upgrade time.

The only thing on the heads are 03 do not have an EGR provision where as on the 04 up has the port. If you use the 05 heads you will just need to buy the block off plate or make one.

If it's an '05 block then you don't need to worry about the MDS, it doesn't have it.

The 5.7's in the cars have always had MDS, they didn't add MDS to the trucks until later.

That being said, you won't have to change out the lifters, the 5.7 out of an LX will operate just fine without MDS active. A lot of guys in the Charger/Challenger crowd use the Diablosport tuner's to turn MDS off and run daily without it.

You may want to look at pulling the heads to have them refreshed with new valve seats etc, if you don't know the history of the car the engine is coming from. Now would also be the time to swap in a cam if you have the funds.

Edit: Just saw you found a dropped seat, whatever heads you go with, have them rebuild to be on the safe side or go with a ported set as stated above.

Tuning is going to come into play if anything are done to the heads besides a freshen up. If they deck them it will raise CR which will cause pinging if low oct fuel is used or his timing and fuel map is off. Come up with a plan and budget and we can help with advising problems and solutions before they happen.

So I paid 2k for that engine. I'm glad that I decided to take the heads off. I took them off to swap the heads and this is what I found.... the guy won't answer his phone now

05 Cars have MDS but if its a 300 then pretty sure they didn't make them till 06. The car blocks and truck blocks are different and there are some holes to drill out in the car block, which i think are related to the engine mounts. I was thinking of swapping in my lx crazy spartan mill into the truck but need to research more on the subject. Google the Powerblock episode where they do an engine swap into a 3rd Gen block and the problem i mentioned between the two blocks is discussed in the video. You are looking for the one where they do longtubes, cam and new pistons (second video goes further ie. Heads). Keep us posted on the swap. I have to install my new motor in the Magnum come spring so the Ram upgrade swap will have to wait out but is possibly in the books if I can find a used predator (Greg ssssssh on the Predator for now we can discuss the tuning options later).
