About to have headers installed since exhaust studs are breaking at 140,000 miles, and the manifolds are coming off anyway. Read all the comments, but are there any consequences later?

I went w JBAs... no issues besides the dip stick tube having to be bent a little... that being said, wish I went with ARH Long Tubes...

Define what you mean by this---"consequences" I don't understand what you want

I went with the JBA ceramic coated Shorty's. They're prettier than the day I put em on. No wraps. Haven't had to tighten or re-torque yet, used Remflex gaskets and the bolts that came with the JBA's. No issues as of now.

I like my jba short tube headers. Definite performance enhancement.

Sure. Consequences such as:
-obnoxious cabin noise?
-excessive engine compartment temperature?
-breaks in welds?
-retorquing?
-tough to re-sell truck later?

Thanks in advance. Some of these questions have been answered by other members.

Just to add, I wouldn’t waste your time with the complex install unless planning to go custom tune to maximize power and economy gains. I get better cruising gas mileage than stock with larger diameter bbk shorties/tune.

1 Noise--compared to long tubes--not so much
2 engine compartment temps--not sure, have never tested with and without headers
3 some of the cheaper shorties have had problems with workmanship--do your home work--you can call Matt at Moe's-a preferred vendor on this site. He sells all brands and has experience with them all.
4 re torquing I re torqued mine at 500 miles and then again at 2000 miles just for piece of mind although I have long tubes. Member report if you use Remflex gaskets you don't have to re torque.
5 resale--depends on the dealership, some subtract value if you have mod's others not so much

I have BBK ceramic coated shorties and an Hemifever tune.

1) No cabin noise even less than the stock manifold but more noise if you open the window :p
2) No excessive heat problems.
3) No break in welds (I think only Hookers or some cheap shorties have this problem).
4) Retorquing like Pull Ya said just for piece of mind (I have Felpro gaskets).
5) Depending on the buyer. He can have all the mods (CAI, shorties, 180 Tstat, Hemifever tune) or I can easily go back to stock (have kept all the stock parts) but I DON'T BUY IT.

I'm one of those guys who save all the OEM parts when I change something out. But those iron exhaust manifolds are so ugly, out dated and inefficient looking, they got tossed into the recycling. Those iron manifolds look like something that came off of a 60s farm tractor. I'm surprised they even use such a piece of crap on these engines.

You're spot on with the tractor remark. Was just tuning up my little 3 cylinder diesel chinese tractor and the exhaust manifold is almost identical looking!

I had a question about cleaning the aluminum ports on the engine before installing headers. What would be the best way of getting this done without scrapping the aluminum?
Cleaner of some sort?

Thanks.

Scotch brite and/or 320+ grit sandpaper will clean and prep new gasket surface. Wouldn’t go too wild with anything powered.
