Ok, so i have a 1997 Ram 1500 with a 5.9 and 203,444 on the clock. She runs like new, no stuttering, no hesitation, nothing. Only problem i have is the CEL is on, i dont have a scan tool and the original radio is gone, who ever had it before me removed it so i cant run the codes that way. My real problem however is the extended crank time. I'm unsure what it could be. Some times its longer than others, sometimes it just takes a second or so others it takes a good bit. This is when its cold, like has sat over night.. Some one said it could be crank sensor but it still starts, and the tac works just fine, no issues with it. And its only cranking, it never runs poorly, never dies, nothing. Could it be fuel pressure? a leak somewhere? Any advice would help!

Retrieve engine codes through the radio? I admit that I'm new to Dodge but I've never heard of being able to get the codes that way.

Try turning the key on and off 3 times (on, off, on, off, on) within 10 seconds and count how many times the CEL light blinks. It should blink, pause then blink some more to give a 2 digit code.

Welcome to RF

Yes start with a fuel psi test. Also try cycling the key twice and see if it starts better in the am.

Sounds like the same problem I had with mine. The fuel pump was fine but the check valve that's supposed to hold fuel pressure so it starts easy was bad. If I cycled the key a few times to prime the pump it started fine but if I didn't it would take awhile. It started fine if I was running it earlier but if it had been awhile like in the morning it would be a long start. The fuel would just leak back. You can buy a separate kit to replace it, but I replaced the whole pump since its a pain to replace and didn't want to do the job twice.
