I have a 2022 Ramm 1500 Ecodiesel. I replaced the 8.2 head unit with Links well tablet. From the beginning, I have not been able to get backup camera to work. In addition, there was not a patch cord for the 2 USB & Aux port under the unit. Also, my intermittent wipers don't work. Dealership is blaming the Linkswell unit. My question is, if I replace the head unit with a 12 in unit from a 5th Gen, will it plug and play? Service advisor at dealer said no, that vehicles are being built that you can't change/upgrade them. Does anyone know if that is true/ offer advice/opinion?

Since every item that's plugged into the canbus system is also programmed into the ECU of the car it will only work if it's (re)programmed in the car's ECU. I changed the middle console with OEM one with wireless phonecharging doc. It didn't work until after it was programmed into the ECU.

Actually, all that programmed stuff is in the BCM (body control module).

ECU (PCM and TCM combined) is engine / transmission only and not accessible to the little guys without a tuner, Unless you are using something like AlfaOBD or a scan tool to just test certain components..

Try another dealer (may be difficult since you show you are in Mongolia).

@ GlobetrotterV8 is partially correct in changing the configuration to get some optional functions / equipment to be recognized and operational. That is done in the BCM using something like a scantool, or the much cheaper route is to do like I do, using AlfaOBD software (phone / tablet or windows PC type. I use it in a windows 11 PC and works awesome). You will also need an OBDII dongle to allow the program to talk to the BCM and it needs to be a good one that is Bi-Directions comms capable. I use the OBDLink MX+. This combo has never let me down.

Your truck being a 2022 will need a security bypass cable, also.
