you guys know i dont get into the performance too much but i remember way back when i had my 05 doing a 6.1 cam swap was all the rave and supposed to yeild a few ponies with little effort. what the concensus? im not looking for a 500hp truck but if i can get a little more romping fun im down. i dont care to go all out custom tune so that is why im thinking the 6.1. is it worth the money? labor will be free, my little brother is ase certified and his father in law owns a transmission shop full of all kinds of toys.

im almost out of things to do to the interior and exterior.

You'll need headers to make up for bottum end loss. It works great with the superchips. I used to shift maually at 6300. I now have the crazy spartan and to be honest the 6.1 was very capable. With 3:55 peg leg gears and without torque converter, CAI, ported TB or e-fan mods I managed to log a 0-60 at 6.59 seconds without any wheel spin. Gives ya 25 HP more on top. I plan on keeping mine on hand as it is an AC version.

I do recall Frog saying once Quote: The 6.1 Cam sucks, so you won't win a Bitchen from Him...LOL.

go with the 260. im running my 260 on the stock superchips 91 performance tune. runs fine, idles, everything.

also go with a set of longtube headers. those will be one of your favorite mods. GUARANTEE IT

Would of loved a 260 but they are known to cause stalling Problems in the 03 model, but 04, good to go!

Mike, all I can say is to stay with the tried and proven pieces and it should be great fun. I have my pieces and can't wait to get started. Good luck..

Oh no, I'm keeping the old girl "blond". She'll just have the electrodes permanently implanted. (Bride of Frankenstien)

I had a 6.1 reground and it performed good on stock tune, then opted for a Hemifever tune through SCT.... then yanked that cam when my piston let go and put in a Crazy Spartan on a 112LSA. Bottom end will feel the same with a 6.1 but it will pull pretty good uptop.

A 6.1 with a 4 to 5 degree advance should net you some lowend back and be a good cheap cam.

Been thinking about adding a couple degree advance on my 268 to get a littl more tq and low end out of it. Not sure just yet if I want to try it or if it's even a possibility with it.

Truckin you can put the adjustable timing set on your truck and play with it, the tune would have to be redone again though. What stall are you running? Could get more pop out of a higher stall.

U want him to pay uninstall on your truck and 200? Is your buddy coming down to or is it through sam?

Or are you wanting uninstall, then install on his truck plus cash?

basically he pays the uninstall and install costs and gets the cam for free, 200 for the diablo and it would be through sam. i really dont care. if someone wants the cam cool, if not then it just gets traded in

The stall is good @ 2800 since the cam starts its powerband right about there and tops out around the 6500rpm mark or a little higher (have to check the chart), and id like it more around the 61-6200rpm mark so I can take advantage of it when its at its peak. From doing the reasearch every 1* you move it it'll drop the peak hp/tq numbers down approx 300rpm +/-. So giving it a degree or two should drop it down enough. Of course if I get my custom tcm file before I can adjust the degree on the cam it wont matter cause I can get a "D" shift WOT @ 65-6600rpm without manually shifting.

Okla - a 6.1 on a 4-5* advance would make your truck scream and shouldn't need much of anything to tune. You wont need a lot of big mods for it either
