I have read the post that was a few post down about the 6.4 cam in the 5.7 ram engine, my question is, why wont the factor valve springs work ? and my guess is I have to get all new gaskets ?

The 6.4 cam has alot more lift then the 5.7. The spri.g is only rated for i think right at .500 lift. The 6.4 cam also has a much increased rpm range. So a set of springs would help get the full potential from the cam.

The factory 6.4 Springs are taller and have a different install height than the 5.7's
the 5.7 is a 1.81 the 6.4 is 2.1 I believe

the 6.4 springs when installed from the factory is within .050 of coil bind on the exhaust anyway. the factory squeezes them very tight and there isnt much room to play with.

Yup get the cam, springs, then get tuned to be able to turn about 62-6300 RPM's and youll be ahead of the pack. thats what i'm planing on doing.

all this **** is getting confusing....... is it even really worth it ? I mean doing a new cam swop is a big job.

I have no idea what springs, shims gaskets or any of that

It can be worth it with all the supporting mods and a good tune. In the challenger the cam on a stock tune and longtube headers with no cats dynoed 9 hp 20 ft. Others with a tune claimed between 20 and 40 hp. It may not be as empressive as the comp cams but the avg person can afford it and not struggle to get it tuned. The 6.4 should run good o. A 93 or 91 tune until you can get it custom tuned.

As for springs i am using the Manley nextex spring p#221430 or 221431. You shouldnt need shims as the insfall height is 1.8xx. Head gaskets and bolts should be replaced just for.easy of mind.

Thats it im afraid. The only other sources are arrington amd inertia. I hear but cant comfirm that arrington now has access to the vvt tables which i believe will lead to more impressive gains like in the gm and ford motors
