Test drove a 2016 2500 4x4 mega cab today and I can say I was very impressed with the power. This thing runs like stink! I really did not notice the mds kicking in. It felt pretty smooth. It gets up to speed with minimal pedal. Now for the negatives. When the salesman started it up to pull it around there was a very distinct puff of blue smoke and it clattered like all get out for about 5 seconds. Other than that it was quiet and very strong. That was with the 3.73 gears. A 4.10 would be more impessive I would imagine.

It may have been sitting for several weeks without being started so all of the oil has run out of the top end & the rings are more than likely not seated yet so it is very common for new vehicles to burn oil until they are. I had a 1990 Daytona that took 5,000 miles before it stopped burning oil. It was nothing major but it burned about a 1/2 quart over that amount of time.
If you are really interested, a good test would be to go back down there in a couple of days to see if it did it all over again.

We will more than likely have to order a truck. The dealer is doing a search for what we want but I doubt they will find it. That was the only 6.4 on the lot or I would have had the start a couple of them. I figured that it had been sitting a while so I was not overly concerned about it, but it is something I will be more aware of as we look around. Next weekend probably going to head to Beaumont or maybe even Houston. It just depends on what the dealer can come up with.

I never had smoke and clatter, but mine runs a lot smoother at 2,500 miles than it did new. Stronger acceleration too and I have 3.73 gears. I've never thought I needed any higher gearing.

For sure, that truck pulled like a freight train. I was very suprised at how agile that big truck moved. It's like a running back that's built like a lineman.

My 6.4 had the smoke on startup for several weeks after delivery and then it stopped. It has yet to use any oil. I have only had clatter once, and that was pretty recently. My oil minder is down to 30%, so I am working towards an oil change, so I am not worried... yet.

Good luck in your search....we have about 800 miles on ours. We are coming from a 2015 Cummins Dually and I'll take this SRW Hemi any day. I absolutely love this things.

We have had NO issues with it.

Again, good luck!

Just one in standard 2500/3500 form. 66RFE automatic. Same gearing as what you get with the 68RFE in the diesels.

C&C trucks you can get the available AISIN with pto.

Mine smoked a bit when new but stopped within the first 1k. At 15k now and it doesn't burn any oil.

The clattering on startup persists and I've been told is normal. I don't really notice it now. Frankly my VW GTI and BMW were way worse. The Injector noise on the VW was pretty loud.

We'll have to have a 6.4 get together at the *** Root Beer for a *** Burger, in Isaquah, when you get yours.

Awesome, I would love that it will be sometime in March when it suppose to come in but I figure toward the end of March.

I really like the 6.4L
I ordered mine with 4:10 gears since I had attention of putting a lift kit and 37's on her as soon as she came in.

My prior truck was a 1998 Ram 1500 standard cab short bed with 6" lift, 35" wires, 318 Magnum engine, and 3:55 gears. ( 10 mpg )

My new 2016 Ram 3500 crew cab short bed, with 5 1/2" lift, 37" tires, 6.4L Hemi ( 392 ) engine, and 4:10 gears. ( 10.5 - 11 mpg )

The new truck weights much more, larger tires, and bigger engine.
I'm getting better mpg and this truck is much, much faster then my old one.

Mine smoke occasionally on startup up to about 5k or so. Still clatters on startup, but don't understand how/why it would be normal. Otherwise it's been great.

Thank you.

Before I ordered the truck, the wife and I took a 2500 and a 3500 out for a test drive back to back.
Same roads hitting the same exact bumps.

After the test rides, I looked over at my wife and asked her what she thought.
She said that the 3500 was just a very little bit tougher, but she wouldn't hesitate buy a 3500.
That was my exact feeling also, so the 3500 is what I ordered.

The lift kit was also $350.00 cheaper than the kit for the 2500 and about 4-5 hours less time to install.

This is due to the 3500 only has blocks and new U-bolts to lift the rear.
The 2500 kit is new rear coil springs, tracking bar drop bracket, etc, etc.
