I have a 2015 ram 2500 6.4. My truck was going into limp mode often. I replaced the valve body with a sonnax chr146. I was told that would work after the swap I was getting p1776 p0734 p0734 and it wouldn’t go pass 3rd gear. I noticed the original valve body had a grey solenoid and the new one is white. Does that make a difference?

Can't help with the color of the connectors. Might want to ask sonnax.

Did you do a trans relearn after you installed the new valve body?

Probably the wrong valve body.
One has a white solenoid connector, the other gray, and different # of check balls.
I don't remember all the specifics cause i never upgraded not wanting to relearn over my custom tune.

It said it worked for 5 or 7 check balls. They also stated the white solenoid is universal and would work.

There is a step to make it universal.. It would be easier to just use grey sometimes. There is an upgrade gm solenoid as well, but my guess by now you just want it to drive.

The white-connector solenoid block will replace all of the other types of solenoid blocks. You just have to make sure you use the correct transmission range sensor plate: Type 2 with cars that have manual 1 and manual 2 on the shifter, type 3 if it just has Drive on the shifter.

did you flash it I didn't read the posts.

Did you do
this step too?
If this valvebody is going to be installed into a 68RFE, 65RFE or 66RFE application, removeaccumulator cover plate, then remove OE inner and outer springs out of the 2ndaccumulator and install Sonnax orange inner and plain outer springs. Remove ODaccumulator spring and install Sonnax white/pink spring (Figure 3). Reinstall thecover plate and install all of the retaining screws andtorque to 40 in-lb (Figure 1).

If that was issue then most likely white solonoid isn't the issue or flash relearn, all that should be good enough.

I did do all of that. Installed the correct springs and did a relearn. I’ll have to check the plates. I’m wondering if I should just use a solenoid with a gray connector. I did read that sonnax valve bodies have 7 check balls and a gray solenoid only works with 5 check balls.

my guess sonnax already did that. This happens a lot with new VB's sadly. I'd try a hard rexset, couldn't hurt.

I'm guessing trans fluid is good?

You have the correct valvebody and solenoid pack. The white connector is universal. The only thing that has to be done which you know is change the spring and do a relearn. It was a pretty straight forward install. Ive done this swap twice on two different trucks. Either you have an issue somewhere else or or have a new faulty solenoid pack.

I'm so glad to hear that because I bought one for mine and was wondering if I should install it or not . I have no issue with my old one, I'm just hoping to replace it before I have an issue.

That's why I swapped the last one. Just for good preventative measure. Nothing was going on with the old one but wanted to upgrade while changing filter and fluid. I ended up giving my old one to guy I work with after his blew one of the pistons thru the accumulator plate. Worked out well for him and was glad I still had it.

I had to put the original valve body back in. I couldn’t drive it with the new one. The original one works. I just have to accelerate at a slow rate or it will go into limp mode. When I get up to speed it’s fine. Maybe I’ll try another solenoid pack.

Yeah I think its the solenoid pack is faulty but I would try and exchange the valvebody with a another one and replace it also. Its a known issue. Maybe check the connections on the solenoid pack for damage could have a bent pin or something. Where did you get it from?

I looked at the new valve body and it does have a type 2 transmission range sensor plate. I didn’t pay attention to what the original one had. But from what was posted it sounds like I would need a type 3 for my truck. I might check that out.

If you actually received the sonnax CHR146 then you should have to do nothing other than change the spring. I'm not sure what transmission range sensor they have but I know they are compatible with your truck. I'm not following what that is all about.

So the plates are different from the new valve body and the old one. I put the old plate on the new valve body. Reinstalled it. It works better than the first time but it still clinks and clunks trying to get through the gears. It can get through all of the gears. The first time I couldn’t get pass 3rd gear. I’m thinking about trying to put the old solenoid on and trying that.
