Anybody with the 8 speed notice when slowing to make a turn say around 17-23 mph and accelerate light-normal and it studders before accelerating? Idk if it's the MDS or fuel shutoff cutting out when the throttle is applied or if its the trans deciding what gear to go into. I can get it to do it on the same road everyday. It almost feels like its slips a bit before going into the needed gear or I catch it in between gears. No other shifting issues. Upshift and downshifts just fine in every other situation. Only have 1100 miles and it may be learning still but its very annoying.

I've done more playing around with the trans. It's definitely in the trans. I can put the ERS in 8 and watch it downshift. Once it's around 11-13 mph and in 3rd gear, it revs lightly as it moves and then feels like the torque converter locks or unlocks with a gentle thud(almost like another shift but its still in 3rd at that time)and then moves on in 3rd gear until it shifts to 4th. Everything thing else is fine. Its only once the trans is in 3rd and I gently accelerate around that speed that it feels like a flare or the TC locking up. Can anybody please try with theirs and see if it happens on theirs as well?

You felt it lock up at slow speeds? Its not exactly soft at light throttle. If I apply more throttle it gets lighter lol.

yes i think i have felt lock up naturally i wasnt paying much attention to what gear throttle etc just driving normally. i will say i observed no abnormal rpm increase the shift felt smooth and natural but all my shifts are with this transmission. when i first picked it up i had a few hard shifts and a few sloppy ones but that cleared up fairly quickly within 300 miles (500 km) since then its been a fantastic shifting transmission. i think i felt the lock up at about 40 kmph i think that about 22 or so miles per hour i will verify tonight i will confirm tonight with ers its possible it was just a nice smooth shift lol

I did try it in Tow/Haul it's harder to get it to do it because it downshifts lower but it will still do it. I'm 80% sure it's torque converter lockup related.

from that discription its sound like slippage to me i would have her checked out. i will pay perticular attention to third tonight and see if i can observe 3rd lockup and i will try it at heavier throttle also

That'd be great! Thanks bud! I've tried it from a deadstop to get it to happen in 3rd but it won't. It's only when slowing down to 10-13mpg and the trans is in 3rd gear and I accelerate light to normal that it will feel like a split shift and then rides 3rd a bit more before shifting to 4th.

One would think it would lockup sooner if anything. As when its locked is when it cuts down on the trans workload. No?

It definitely changes. I can catch it downshift to 3rd and apply light throttle and roll into it a bit harder and it will still do it but its much less noticeable. No slip, just an oddity I guess.

Ok so i did the test for ya and I think I see whst ur sayin ers, tow haul and ers and tow haul 3rd gear then it hits lockup then fourth. Have to be real easy on the throttle tho othrrwise it skips lockup and goes straight to fourth. I noted 0 shudder but isuppose if u use d or tow haul it maybe mds kicking out. It was awfully slow to get her to kick into 3rd lol. Ihad to push the brake to slow her down .

Right. but it also cuts the heat down significantly. It appears through my readings that the 8HP70 can lockup in any gear from 1-8. There also seems to be multiple clutches for certain gears. 3rd gear just so happens to be the first gear available that has two clutches. They also have gear steps which I find odd.

Yes! Thank you! That's what I'm talking about. On mine though its definitely not a shudder but more of a feeling of engagement. like another shift if that makes sense. Was that what you felt? The only time I'm at that speed is when slowing for a turn. Wish it would drop a lower gear to second.

I'm wondering as well if my aftermarket exhaust, tuner(although its only engine tuned as there's no trans tuning available yet), bigger tires, and lower 3.92 gearing makes it more noticeable. Or maybe it's just my OCD Haha. It does only have 1200 miles on it now. Just didn't think the engagement would be that noticeable. It does get noticeably lighter with more throttle input when dragged down to 3rd and powered out. I may just be at the slow enough speed where the TC lockup is most felt?

Lol ocd for sure ;). Larger than stock tires would likely magnify the amount u feel the lockup for me with the stock tires its barely noticeable. I noted the lockup because I was looking for it . Like I said for me I need feather light throttle to get it to lockup . Otherwise it just skiped the lockup. Have u had the tires on since new?
