U could try to reset ur shift adapt it might help.for me under normal driving (for me) my trans would never hit lockup in that gear.its not harder than any other shift if anything its less noticeable although allmy shifts are very smooth

Right. but it also cuts the heat down significantly. It appears through my readings that the 8HP70 can lockup in any gear from 1-8. There also seems to be multiple clutches for certain gears. 3rd gear just so happens to be the first gear available that has two clutches. They also have gear steps which I find odd.

I wouldnt say significantly lower at all .ur trans will benefit more even temp wise from the increased rpm of the engine producing more oil flow through the trans and cooler and an increase in clutch pressure.the 8 speed is a 5 clutch transmission with a minimum of three clutches in any gear. I never heard of gear steps plz explain ?

I put them on with about 800 miles. They're about an inch taller. I just seem to notice it more because I'm always light in the throttle in a turn(unless I'm playing). So yours did the pickup in 3rd with the ERS manually shifted to 8?

This is from ALLPAR's website but it appears there's three clutches with two brakes and two shift elements open per gear. The stepped gears stump me as well. I always thought the point of TC lockup was to cut the slip out of the TC and help cooling? On a normal accel what's the purpose of the TC lockup in any given gear? It appears that this trans can lockup in 1-8 if the conditions permitted. Thanks again for letting me bounce my OCD worries off ya! Lol
As Allpar predicted, the transmission uses four planetary gearsets and five gear shift elements (two brakes, three clutches); there are two opened shift elements per gear, minimizing drag losses. Efficiency is higher than the 6HP transmission in first gear, lower in third through fifth, and higher in sixth (identical in second). Only two shift elements are open in each gear, cutting parasitic losses, and extreme transmission shifts, such as eight-to-second kickdown, are possible.

Ya I tried it all three ways ers, th, and ers th. All three I noted third lockup but only under feather throttle if I accellerated my normal it did not do it .when it did it was real smooth and light barely noticeable unless ur looking for it .

they use lockup for fuel economy its like another shift.the tc is like another gear box.wnen u start from a stop its a big reduction but as u start to move its less so lockup is just makkng it 1 :1 thus lowering rpm and saving fuel. As u need power the tc unlocks and gives the slight reduction again .hope this helps . If u need more testing just let me know im happy to help cheers

Thanks Postal! So I'm assuming since I am accelerating through 3rd after coasting down that what I'm feeling is the TC unlocking? It revs normally, pauses as it locks or unlocks and then revs through the rest of 3rd into 4th.

absolutlely np .That would be my guess, that coupled with the tire size thru a screw into the shift mapping a little it will likely work itself out over time but a reset on the shift adapt should help

it should not pause long mine does it in a fraction of a second. i wish i could drive it to see exactly what u are takling about. lockup should be less noticeable than a shift afterall theres alot less goin on during lockup

I would say it happens in less than a second. Gotta find the sweet spot for the truck to do it though in 3rd. Too much and it isn't felt but seen in the revs. To little and you don't feel it. If you gently apply the throttle and then roll into it a tiny bit it can sometimes feel confused as it locks or unlocks I guess. That's when it's most noticeable. Seeing as how that's what I'm doing and the speed I'm at when taking a turn I feel/notice it quite a bit lol.

mine did not drop lockup when it down shifted to third it was unlocked then as i preceeded thru third it hit lock up then shifted to forth

Thanks again for all the help bud! I'm sure it'll work itself out. I'm just thinking its locking up as should but I may be either applying throttle or letting out of the throttle as its locking up causing more of the sensation.

Love the tires! This is my 5th set of Duratracs lol. Here's a pic of how she sits leveled now.

I wish diablo would get going on the TC for the 8 speed.
You know there's more in there for better shifting.
I spoke to edge in fall and they said they did plan on doing a torque converter but I've heard nothing yet.

Thanks man! Surprisingly my MPG has dropped maybe .2 mpg. They're a pretty light tire.

I agree. I loved my CMR tune from Hemifever on my 2012. Made a night and day difference shifting wise.
