Hey guys! I traded in my gray 2014 express for a white 2017 Laramie with the 8 speed. I noticed yesterday on the highway with no load that the trans temp was hovering right around 176*-180*. With my express pulling our TT, that truck would sit about 175* loaded down with dog, kids, wife, camping gear, and full trailer. Do the 8 speeds just run warner? What has everyone’s experience been like with no load and with a load as far as trans temps go? I’m absolutely in love with this Laramie and it has super low miles so I would hope it is just normal! :)

I have a 2016 ED tradesman. I run 125 miles round trip a day unloaded all highway. The trans normally sits at 185* with a very small temp swing of a couple degrees warmer on hotter days. It's usually pretty consistent to the point I don't pay mind to it anymore. Just keep an eye on temps pulling long grades.

I believe the normal operating temperature for the 8-speed is around 176 to 196. To add, mine is usually around 180.

I have a 2015 1500 and it seems that all temps run a little hotter. This was pulling a 7k TT3adb09a7a6238d570272846729505c03.jpg

for the 8 speed, if the transmission temp is below the coolant temp and is not making drastic temperature spikes above the coolant temp it's working correctly. The usual operating temp range reported is 175° to 192°F

The 8spd auto actually has a heater in it to bring the tranny up to temp quickly for emissions/fuel economy reasons. Not great but still better than the 5th gens with their heated differentials in addition too.

Thanks guys!! I’ll be towing our travel trailer in a few weeks for Father’s Day weekend camping and I’ll follow up with the temps pulling it up to the reservoirs on Mt St Helens where we camp. The feedback makes me feel better for sure.
