Hello all,
I drive a 2015 RAM 1500 express 4x4 with a 3.6l pentastar and the 845RE transmission. I have 48,650ish miles on it. I upgraded my transmission pan this weekend. I upgraded to a ppe aluminum pan with removal filter. The pan fit great. The truck was down shifting hard/jerking. I did a drain and fill flush on the system twice. The transmission now down shifts smooth. The fluid i took out had a burnt smell to it.

you will need a allen wrench 5/16 for the fill plug and t40 for the drain and all the pan bolts.

PPE transmission pan.

i used a fel-pro gasket from oreilly.

You can use Maxlife atf on zf 6 and 8 speed transmissions.

I did this becuase now i can change the filter and fluid cheaper than buying a new pan/filter and the lifetime fluid. The third party pan/filter is 270.00 and the fluid is $52.80 a quart. yes it costs alittle to set it up at first. but the replaceable filter is 29.99 and the maxlife is 17.99 a gallon at walmart. I plan on keeping this truck for a while. so this is an investment for me. I can tell you that my transmission shifts like it was new. The PPE pan is top notch.
None of the transmission shops around here will touch the 845RE. the rebuld kit cost 4,800.00. A new transmission cost 5,000.00. plus lador and tax. this is a small investment that fixed my hard down shifting. So after a couple of filter changes it has paid for itself. thanks

I just purchased a 2013 Ram, also with the 3.6L 4x4 8HP45, and it has this issue. I came across another Aluminum upgrade kit, Autotecnica CY1214647PRM Pan and Filter Kit. However it seems to be discontinued. also found the B&M Hi-Tek kit, are these(B&M and PPE) the only ones on the market at the moment?

There's a few stock replacement pans, like Dorman, but as far as i know only the PPE and B&M are deeper aluminium pans. The PPE pan reuses the stock gasket, while the B&M uses a cork gasket. If it wasn't for the cork gasket, the B&M would be comparable to the PPE,but i'm no fan of cork gaskets,i've yet to see a cork gasket not leak after a few years.
This is the PPE pan that holds 2 quarts more fluid, they do have a shallower pan that holds 1 quart extra, both will work on your 845,but the extra quart of the deeper pan never hurts.

This pan holds 2.5 extra quarts, but supposedly needs some modifications to the crossover pipe to fit the V6 gas models.
