Last week, I took my 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 8 speed into the ram dealership to inspect a oil leak near the bell housing. The dealer tech determined it to be a leak from the Transmission’s front pump seal. They also stated they aren’t allow to open the ZF transmissions and will have to order a replacement transmission. Luckily I’m still under the power train warranty.

Has anyone had this issue on a ZF? If yes, How long did it take for them to order a replacement transmission? Thanks for reading the long post.

....How did they determine it to be a front pump seal? Was the fluid green? If it wasn’t, and it was engine oil colored, it’s engine oil. How are you still under factory PTW? Did you get the extended warranty when you purchased your truck?

The dealership removed the transmission and determined the leak to be from the front pump seal. Originally they thought it was the rear main but that was replaced 11 months ago under power train as well.

The original power train warranty was still good because I got lucky as my 2014 truck was purchased in 2015 of September. The last year it was 100k/5year powertrain. So my warranty expires this month and I only have 90k miles.

Mine was about 6 weeks out of service. Dealer had to have it checked by a zf certified tech, repair/diagnosis report done, wait for fca approval and then order parts, which were back ordered. They say it's a non serviceable unit, but it's really just non serviveable by ram dealers only zf techs can work on them.
