Hey guys brand new to the board. I am looking to replace the speakers in my 97 extended cab and looking for some advice from someone who has probably done this already. Right now everything is factory, it does have the upgraded infinity component set. What is the cheapest way to go about this with getting some decent sound. I really was trying to avoiding adding a new amp and everything but am open to suggestions. Let me know, thanks.

Welcome, IMHO, go to Best Buy, listen to many of their components. You'd get many personal preferences, which is ok, but in components vary, depending on tweeters. Some are harsher than others, etc...so only you ears will tell you what you like.

I was wondering if anyone knew if the front speakers actually have an amp in them or attached to them? What would happen if I just replaced the speakers and didn't add an amp? Clearly by the questions I am asking I don't know what the hell I am doing...haha

I'm sorry, but screw Best Buy. They spike prices way to high imo. Front door speakers are 6x9. There is no amp attached to speakers from the factory. They just go straight into the head unit. I'm going to put up some suggestions and let you decide from there.
Head Unit

These will cover the front and back. 6x9's for the front. 6.5's for the back.

I understand your idealism on Best Buy, but on our products at least, they are still right where pricing needs to be.
One good thing, you ever have an issue, you take it back in and swap it out and get a new one. Ebay, you have to package up, send back parcel your cost to Ebay guy, wait for him to send your speakers back to manufacture of the place he got them, then they send back to manufacture.
So it literally can take days or weeks, or longer. I'd rather pay a little more, and get service now.
