Turning the key produces no sound at all. Dome light and other accessories work intermittently. The truck will start when jumped from a vehicle with a strong battery. After it starts I have to keep my foot on the gas pedal or it will die. Once turned off will not start again without a jump. Battery has been checked and load tested. Terminal connectors have both been replaced.

Can a bad starter cause this?

I would try a different battery. Had this happen years back on my wife's 99 that would not start at her work place. Used my "jump pack" to start it, but than had to keep high idle to keep it running. Changed out the battery, and it started right up, but would have to keep the idle up until the computer recognized the new battery. All was good after that.

No, a starter will not cause it to quit running.

If the battery has tested good, get the alternator tested and check your fan belt.
