That extra 1.5" means alot when the batteries supplying a load, lol
Yeah, I kind of assumed that, lol, I was just more or less talking about fitment. I guess I’ll just have to wait until I get home this evening to measure the length opening of the box.

But if I do go with this larger battery- being that I have a lifetime warranty on my truck, let’s just say something electrical happens to my truck that we probably all know did not have a thing to do with the battery but if they see that I used a different group battery than what this truck calls for, could they screw with me on that? Now, when I was talking to the ram dealer service writer yesterday about AGM batteries, he did say that he highly doubted that if something like that ever happened that they’re not gonna send an inspector to look at the battery…..

Also, being that my factory battery cover may not fit, I do have some leftover bubble wrap, insulation stuff that has that tinfoil looking covering on both sides- I believe it’s called Reflectix- that I could probably build a new blanket out of.

Trust us,the bigger battery fits, you have to remove the little spacer in the bottom of the battery tray. They use the same battery box/tray in the Cummins trucks that have the bigger battery. Anything that insulates the battery from underhood heat is gonna help extend the life of the battery.I highly doubt a bigger battery will affect your warrenty,as it's still a 12 volt battery

Oh, I have no doubt it’ll fit, I was just stating the size difference. I mean, I don’t think they would use or even take the time and money to develop a whole new battery box just for the half tons.

And yeah, it is only 12 V but I’m pretty sure you know just like I do that most warranty companies are highly capable of looking for any reason they can just to keep from paying a claim because they suck like that.

Either way regardless, I’m really not concerned about it because if anything ever happens, I’ll just tell them I didn’t even look at the battery when I installed it and say the dude at Walmart must’ve just grabbed me the wrong battery and then probably proceed to say what’s the problem? It’s not like it’s a higher voltage. Maybe higher cranking amps but even the same OE replacement that I had before this had more cranking amps than the factory battery did.

If it did worry you, keep your old battery and reinstall it if you end up having a warrenty issue, lol.

Yeah, but I want that core charge money… Lol. I haul rock for a living and because of the snow and these colder temps we’ve got, I haven’t worked a whole lot since Christmas…lol. If I get to work tomorrow and Friday, this will be the first whole week I’ve worked since Christmas holiday……

As usual @corneileous overthinking it. Skip the agm with the lifetime warranty. Alternator sounds fine and should be under the warranty if not down the road. If it discharged and then kept working reliably after it may just be something drained it be it a lot of short trips or lights left on and after a charge it recovered. You don't have a ton of xtra load so oe size battery is fine if it goes dead again replace it. Auto parts brand batteries don't always last that long. I've had good luck with ac delco ones. Make sure the terminals are cleaned and tight when you replace it.

Oh I bet but down here when the snow flies, they shut down the state. Sometimes we can work through it but sometimes it shuts us down.

That, and we’ve had a very abnormal winter this year.

What am I overthinking?? Have you even read through the thread? I’ve done a lot of research that shows an AGM would be better so that’s why I might go ahead and get one. But what’s your thoughts on my lifetime warranty and an AGM battery? I know it’s probably not set in stone but my service writer said there wouldn’t be a problem running an AGM battery.

If things shut down here because of snow,we'd never get anything done, that'd leave July and Aug to do things :Big Laugh:

Yes all 6 going on 7 pages. The agms are fine to use, but you're going to get anxiety over it if you go in for electronic or charging issues under warranty so why pay more to add stress to your life as the truck isn't technically spec'd to run it and with your set up will not notice any difference day to day. Might last longer, but cost per mile isn't going to be any better with the cost difference between lead acid and agm.

Well, I’m not the one that’s contributed all six or seven of them pages so but it’s funny how at the same time you point out so many pages but yet you still offer your two cents… Lol.

And I’m not getting anxiety over anything. It’s called asking questions. I was always told that when you don’t know, ask and the only dumb question is the one you didn’t ask.

But on the contrary, how is my truck not “spec’ed” to run it other than the fact that they chose a plain ole regular battery instead of a good one? I mean, and I’m not trying to be a smart *ss here but my truck wasn’t “spec’ed” for 10-ply off-road tires but it’s OK on the Rebel and I should just stick to those cheesy GoodYears?

But yes, a little bit longer lifetime and maybe a little better performance is what I’m looking for but being that the Walmart AGM is even actually a little bit cheaper than the FLA O’Reilly’s battery, I consider that to be doing pretty good but yes, I know, I could just get a cheap Walmart battery for under 150 bucks but I’m really not concerned with that big of a savings, especially if the Walmart AGM works pretty good even with its extra year of free replacement.

Question- I’m looking at batteries at Walmart and they do have the AGM H8’s but the serial number starts with a “JC” so I’m assuming that means it’s a Johnson/Johnston Controls? It also says it’s made in China, too. They also have the H7 that my truck actually calls for that has a “DNA” starting the serial number and says it’s made in Korea but at least it’s dated 1/25. All the H8’s they have are already a year old as they’re labeled 1/24.

Should I just shop at a different store? I mean, untill I do anything like I did before, I won’t have a battery issue…

Id get the battery with the newest date code. Also, if you're not aware, H8 batteries fit perfectly on the hemi. You just have one little plastic clip to remove and the battery sits perfectly.

I can't really comment on whether either battery is better, neither country makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, but the date of manufacture does mean alot when it comes to batteries. If the H7's are a year newer,i'd go with one of them, instead of the bigger H8's that are already a year old

On the ram and my older car I always have a lighter plug adapter or splitter with a digital voltage readout.Lets me know when the battery approaches the 12.0 charge threshold

Yeah, that’s what the guys were telling me earlier which makes sense now because when I was looking at batteries today, I noticed in the battery application book that the H8 is OE for the 4th gen 1500 Eco Diesels so if it’s good for those, why not just recommend the same battery for all??…lol.

I’d still like to try that H8, though so I may just wait untill I can go to a bigger Walmart that hopefully has a fresher stock.
