I think we've established a lot of you think it's a ripoff. For those of us that don't, I appreciated knowing there was a $99 deal.

I don't think the thread was titled "Chime in and tell us you think we're stupid for updating and having a ripoff over priced NAV".

I personally don't like blacked out trim and I think Mud Terrain tires are a waste of money. Accordingly, when I see someone proudly post something about their tires or murdered out truck, I don't hop on to tell them I think it's dumb. To each their own, if you like it, that's what counts.
Fair enough - I don't disagree with you. However the OP asked specifically if the update was worth doing. So no, in my opinion it is not, when you can get a Garmin with lifetime updates for the same price. I don't see how that's off-topic when it was specifically asked. If I had the Nav, I wouldn't spend a dime on an update.

My bad... I read his post as, he has the NAV and wondered if the update was worth the money, worthy changes etc or just keep using the map files already installed on his NAV. I didn't see it as him asking if the update was worth the money or he should ditch his factory NAV and buy a Garmin or TomTom or something. I guess we read things differently.

Might be a dumb question...but I just bought a 2014 Laramie about 3 months ago now and the previous owner had not activated the nav system (RA3). I activated it soon after I purchased the truck. Would that map software be the most current version since I just activated it? Wasn't sure if it would be, or if I would have to do a map update after activation. If I do have to update, that $99 deal would be pretty good.

I'm glad you posted this screenshot because they are shipping 2016 4th quarter maps and I'm driving a 2016 so I'll probably hold out for a couple of more years before updating.

On a side note I have a couple of Garmins with lifetime updates sitting in my garage gathering dust. I really like the factory nav, just not wanting to throw away money on updates that really aren't all that much noticed. I guess when I go on a trip I could update one and throw into the console as a just in case... POI's like restaurants I'm not looking at my nav or Garmin, I'm looking at my iPhone and punching an address in.

The fact that ram wants $99 for map updates, but uses zero anti-seize anywhere on the truck boggles my mind. Radio shoukd have free map updates for life. $99/year adds up quik.

They only release map updates on average about every 3 years.... so there won't be a newer update until 2019-2020 I'd guess.

Does anyone know if the update fixes all the mislabeled roads, addresses that the map won't recognize or input, and missing roads that are 20+ years old. The current version is so screwed up that the update should be a recall. I've literally seen rivers labeled as roads and the concurrent road not even showing on the map. Several times and in several states. Seems like everytime I need to get somewhere, the map won't accept the address.

If the update is to 2016 Q4 my 2017 should not need it even though I received the map update for $99 correct? Is there a way to tell what map date you have? Only thing I can find is under settings it says map database VP4NA V7.
Thanks

I bought the 2012 Ram Lumber Wagon used in 2013. Got the $99.00 offer. I have never updated the maps. I went online entered my VIN and it said I have the latest version and no updates are available.
If there are no updates for me, why send me the offer? So as I understand the website information, 2012 maps are current.

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to receive the update in the mail after you place your order?

I received the mailer with the $99 deal with free shipping and decided to actually pull the trigger this time. I purchased my 2012 Laramie new in 2012 and have religiously received these map update mailers at least once, sometimes twice, a year for the last 6 years. I had heard and been told to not purchase any map update until my truck was at least 2-3 years old - something about the maps not actually being updated year to year, that they are just recycled until the company actually does release a newer map version.

So, considering my maps are pushing 7 years old (given my truck was actually built in 2011), I chose to pay for the update.

My only issue is that I purchased the update over a week ago and still have not received anything but a order confirmation from HERE. That email did state that I would receive another email when my order had shipped and would include a tracking number but, here I am almost 10 days later and have nothing. How long does it really take to ship these discs anyway? Do they make each map update disc to order like the local burger joint? lol

In my case, I had the shipping information 2 days after I ordered it. Mine came as a USB stick with specific instructions on how to do the update. I had to insert the USB stick, wait for the system to generate a code, take that code inside, punch it into their website to confirm the code which generated ANOTHER code that I took out to the truck to complete the update.
