I'm considering tapping into my above head console lights 12v feed to power my radar detector...
It doesn't pull much and considering the lights should have a hot wire all the time unless they time out when the truck is off... (good thing)

Anyone try something like this before ? I know 10 of you are going to ask why I'm not just running another key on wire...whine away.

Not sure about the light but I have my dash cam wired to the plug on my rear view mirror. Only powers on when I start the truck.

You don’t have to run another “key on” wire when you can do it the right way and go to blendmount.com and get you a specially designed power tap that hooks up to your mirror harness and not only that, that map light fixture is a bear to remove. I’m not sure what all options you have but if you have the sunroof, home link and all that other stuff, that just makes removing that even more difficult because the wires are short and the whole thing is held up there with some pretty strong clips.

Not sure on how you plan to mount your detector but they got you covered on that part as well.

After spending forever trying to figure out how to remove all the trim around the mirror I find out there isn't really much of a way to tap into anything there. Ended up running a new wire from cig lighter, up the A pillar and across. Much much easier !
