Do you have to use a mopar controller or can you go with an aftermarked brand like Tekonsha?

there are aftermarket models to use... I picked the OEM, because it is integrated nicely into the truck. I like a good clean look and the factory unit gives me that. I dont need a knee kicker.

I use a P3 and I love it. Either works great. It comes down to personal preference. As far as aftermarket goes, I wouldn't use any other brakes controller other than a P2 or P3. When I bought mine I was going to buy a P2 but the P3 was only $5 more.

I just added a Tekonsha Primus IQ to our Durango. Since I already added the tow package, all that had to be done was to mount it & plug it in. Find out this weekend how well it works.

one of the other threads mentioned having to have the software flashed by the dealer after installing the mopar part. is that necessary with a tekonsh controller?

@18ram18 you don't need a flash with an aftermarket controller. The flash integrates the OEM controller with the truck so that it will integrate with the electronics and display on the dash.
The level of integration with the vehicle of the OEM controller is well worth the price of admission compared to aftermarket. You can enable it with AlfaOBD if your not one for going to the dealer

The after market ones are plug and play if you buy the wiring harness for it. It took longer for me to mount my P3 than it did to hook it up.

The after market ones may be plug and play but do they integrate with the electronics and display on the dash...the 7-inch color in-cluster display as well as the UConnect NAV 8.4" display?

Not at all. That's why there is two plugs on the ITBM module, one handles the power and brake signal, the other one is for vehicle communication and the dash switch connection.
If the sale code is enabled for the OEM ITBM and the module is not plugged in you will get a CEL.

I have the RAM IBC in my 3500, and I ended up by passing it for the tekonsha P3 due to poor braking performance out the stock unit. The tekonsha controller with the optional RAM wiring harness hooked up in like 10 minutes and was good to go.
