Hello everyone. I've recently installed a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 in my '16 Ram 2500 after having virtually no brakes when using the integrated trailer brake controller. The problem I am having is that when the manual slider is pulled to 100% and the gain maxed out on Boost 3, the display shows 12 volts going to the trailer but the brakes aren't engaging at all. However, when I step on the brake pedal, I can feel the trailer slowing down. Do I have a faulty controller?

Given that you're having problems with two different brake controllers, I'm going to say there's a problem with either the wiring, plug/jack and/or the trailer brakes themselves.

Agree 100% with Crash..... This happening on multiple trailers with same truck, or just noticed on a single trailer?

Bad / improper wiring and / or grounds make for some crazy problems.....

FYI, RAM installed a behavior in their proportional braking controller beginning with 2015 production and stretching into 2016 production. The behavior is a loss of trailer braking from the integrated trailer brake module when the travel speed falls below 30 MPH, leaving the tow vehicle with all the responsibility of stopping both the vehicle and its tow. This behavior was corrected in November 2015 with a software release for the integrated trailer brake module and ABS unit.

That's interesting. When I installed the IBC in my '16, it operated the electric over hydraulic brakes on my boat trailer all the way to full stop, lowering the applied voltage until a minimal was reached upon stop. I'm guessing the used controller I installed already had the updated firmware / software installed..

Good to know.

It all depends on when your 2016 was assembled. I don't know how far the 2016 production went before the software was updated into production. I was told production sees updated software first.

What was interesting about this whole 2015 brake controller SNAFU is how fast Tekonsha picked up on it. They produced a cable that would allow their Prodigy controller an easy hookup to the truck's brake controller wiring. I ran P2 for several months before I got the updated software in my 2015. I don't know who at Prodigy picked up on this, but it was genius. There were a lot of us switching over to the Prodigys at that time.

Yeah, I had the P3 (with the Tekonsha cable) in my truck before installing the used IBC I got off Ebay. The P3 worked as well as the IBC, but I wanted an "OEM quality built in controller".
