Aftermarket backup cam with factory 8.4

Looking for some knowledge! I have a 2016 2500 slt that did not come with a rear backup cam. I have ordered a tailgater aftermarket kit for the tailgate which comes with a standard yellow rca cable. Is there any way to splice this into a factory 8.4 uconnect? I would like to use my factory screen as opposed to going aftermarket. I found this on the web but not sure how the signaling works (ie do I just grab power for the camera from the reverse lights or is there more to it to have the camera come on the screen when shifting into reverse?):

Did yours already have the 8-pin harness in the tailgate?
