So I was just wondering as I have not done much research on it but have seen it done and am kid of interested in it. What all would be needed to replace my stock air box with the big carb style air filters?

Ok...since you want a 14x3 here's what you'll need to to do.
If you buy the A/C with the dropped base you'll need an a/c spacer about 3/4 inch tall so your base will clear your tb linkage. You'll also need an extra air cleaner to tb gasket.
As stated you'll need to bend up an "s" bolt.
I fabbed up a breather hose for the stock inlet on my valvecover using the old hose and some plumbing adapters and a molded PCV elbow from a parts store.
Installation/removal is a bit tricky due to space. You will need to wire tie the wiring harnesses back along the cowl and cut the head off a small screw sticking down from the cowl. Also make sure the rubber seal from the hood to the cowl is glued in place. Otherwise rain water can get in the AC.
To install my filter, I have to slide the adapter, lower plate element in there, then screw in my s bolt. Then I can place the top on and the wing nut. I found super gluing the gaskets to the adapter makes for less work.
I know this was a bit long but I wanted to give you as much details as possible. I prefer this setup to the K&N fipk I had.
EDIT: Since somebody will probably ask me what it looks like:

Okay I was at autozone an was going to pick up this edelbrock kit they had with the adapter and then I have a little breather for my valve cover already. With the adapter it seemed like it was about an eighth of an inch too large for the throttle body. Is there a better fitting adapter or what kind of gasket should be ran between the throttle body and the adapter?
I bought an aluminum adapter off ebay. Everything fits just like it should.
Hm okay I have to check eBay then!

Now this is just a quick google search not the actual one as I did not pull the trigger on it since I wanted to ask someone who knew a little more about it. but it looks like that only centered not offset.
Okay that was just a quick google image. The one I was looking at getting would have been recessed in the middle of the base. It also had the 5 1/8 diameter but the issue I was having was when I put it on top of my throttle body it seemed as if it was loose and too big almost. So I was wondering if there was some sort of gasket or spacer almost that would go between the base and the TB??
Sweet that would be greatly appreciated man!
Enjoy!
