Anyone heard anything regarding whether 2017 8.4AN radios will be updated to work with Android Auto?

My guess is probably not, because FCA wants to sell their cruddy navigation. It's gonna aggravate me mightily if this turns out to be the case.

It’s not a matter of whether FCA wants to or not, but that it’s not possible.

Different hardware all together so the only way right now is a company offering a full swap from ‘17 to ‘18 headunit for about 2000$.

My new 18 Laramie has apple car play and android auto built in. Im super siked about it. But yes, different setup all together.

Look into the tesla style radio swap, $800 or so complete and basically converts radio to a huge screen with android operating system, so you would get full integration of android apps etc and keep all the stock features etc.

Might have to look for a junkyard 2018 and grab the radio out of it.

Though 600 bucks for the android addon system doesn't sound too hideous.

The new radios have different hardware, sure.. but android auto works over a usb port. usb ports are about as standard as it gets.
Makes me go hmm.

It's been verified that the 18 ram (Panasonic) radios won't work with the existing hubs in the 13-17 rams (charge only). Likely a driver issue b/w the hub & radio and will need a newer/compatible hub & adapter harness (that still fits the 13-17 opening).

Several of us are trying to chase down a good solution to get this working fully.
