I was thinking the opposite. I think duratracs are the ugliest tires. Lol. Look almost identical to 1980's rear wheel drive studded snow tires.

Ha ha ha. And we are a prefect example of the meaning beauty is in the eye of the beholder ha ha

Not that I want that rating just curious if it is needed for a Ram 1500 4x4 Truck say with full Bed Load, dont want to take away capability ftom the Truck is all.

As far as I know the 275/60/20 tires that come with the trucks (wrangler SR-A) are P rated and not classified as a LT. The LT rating I believe starts at a D rated tire which is 8 ply? E rating 10 ply? Someone will prob correct me.

I think whatever the payload listed would have to be within spec of the crappy stock tires or else they’d be in a lot of hot water

I have the same question, P or LT. It appears in the stock size (275/60 20) only the BFG KO2 is an LT tire, almost all else is P. if you go up slightly (275/65 20) there are tons of LT options, but I think you would need to update the speedometer for the slightly larger tire size.

I am leaning toward a P "AT" tire such as the Kuhmo, Toyo Open country AT, or the Wildpeak - any of those should be enough for forest service roads, and still let me occasionally pull a 2 horse trailer.

Let us know what you choose.

Bang on. The only LT in our size that I know of. I would maybe contact FCA and see if the higher payload rated trucks (1500’s) come with LT tires from factory. Just to cover your butt. Also if you’re towing horses I’d be good peace of mind

Craw, far as I know, the ratings on the side of the tire will tell you if the p rated tire can handle a 1400 pound payload. I believe most will.

I am stuck between the Kumho Venture and Falkan Wildpeak sigh choices choices.

Tirebuyer does have a sale of 50 bucks off the Wildpeak but being a vet I get 7% off anyway.

Falkan : 668 @ Tirebuyer with tax and shipping (AT , Test Drive, & 3-Peak Winter)
Load Rating XL
2833 @ 50PSI
Load/Speed: 117T
Warranty: 55k

Kumho: 662 @ Tirebuyer with tax and shipping (AT , Test Drive, & 3-Peak Winter)
Load Rating SL
2403 @ 51PSI
Load/Speed: 111T
Warranty: 55k

Both have awesome reviews but I was leaning Kumho but with what you guys have said I am leaning Falkan but the tread pattern on Kumho has me being pulled back sigh.

Craw, I have read that khumo has weak side walls. I have never owned a set. So far I haven't read a negative review on the wildpeak. That being said, no one on this forum has had them long enough for a long term review.

Widpeak. You do not need Lt tires for what you do. The wildpeaks are xl and will give you peace of mind as far as weight.

I have been looking at 275/55R20 but it was the P275 I should go LT right? Considering the weight of our trucks plus the possible load of 1400 pounds in the bed. With that in mind adjusted my search to LT285/55R20 and LT275/65R20. Little worries about rub but all the research says I wont have an issue. Any thoughts?

You should have no rub with 275/65R20 tires. I don't. But most tires in this size are LT, very few P rated in this size. I went with LT, but thats my personal choice. A lot of love here for Wildpeak tires, but I think there is better out there. Just my two cents, looks like I am in the minority with that opinion. I'd go for the Kumhos given a choice between just those two.

Someone asked about the tire plies. Probably already been answered, but just in case...
C = 6 ply rating. The word "rating" is very important, as the tire doesn't actually have 6 plies, usually four or five, but its strength is equivalent to 6 plies.
D = 8 ply rating. Usually six to seven plies.
E = 10 ply rating. Usually seven to eight plies.

Thank you.

I have looked at the KO from BFG but reviews suck. I even thought about getting Michelin Defender LTX (newer) tires as well but there are mix reviews. I just want a flippin tire that has good lifespan, low noise, execellent snow and ice traction and wont blow a sidewall if I hit a freaken rock sigh.... Its why I am back and forth between the 2 and if I were to go AS tires might go Michelin but unsure. What AT tire would you go with, still the Hankook Dyna?

You guys don’t know anything about tires. Get tires that are “matched perfect and staggered special.” Rookies.

Can you give more than a 1 liner if you are going to insult people that are trying to assist me. I was from CA so I now people hate their lives right now because Gov. Brown is an idiot. But dont take it out on the forum users, behind the internet wall. Thank you.

Great to hear, only reason I am considering them is because Costco is my installer and that is their best tire (I believe). I would go with BFG KOs which is made by Michelin but reviews are not the best. If I were to go with Falkan or Kumho I would have them delivered to them and they said they would install.

I have looked at the KO from BFG but reviews suck.

The newer KO tires have mixed reviews, but most like them. However, BFGs are not cheap.

I even thought about getting Michelin Defender LTX (newer) tires as well but there are mix reviews.

I've heard good things about the Defenders. However, I can personally testify that Michelin LTX AT2 tires stink in the snow. I had them for a bit, got a good deal... and there was a reason I got a good deal. Anything more than a trace of snow, and I was all over the place. They were good in the rain, and when dry, but terrible in any snow or mud. Definitely more of an all season tire then an All Terrain.

There is no wrong answer here, as long as you are happy. Falken Wildpeaks, Hankook Dynapro ATm, Cooper Discover AT3, BFG KO, the Kumhos, etc. With a LT sized tire, you will have a little harsher ride, and have to put more air into them (my LT sized Hankooks are happy around 55-60 PSI versus my wife's P rated, which are happy with about 40 PSI). They are also heavier, so you'll lose a bit of MPG compared to P rated tires. However, they are thicker treaded, thicker walled, and unless you go rock crawling on a serious Jeep trail or do something ridiculously silly, I doubt you'd puncture the sides.

The BFG tires are available in D tread rating, if memory serves, a happy medium for many between the regular P rated tires (C tread rating) and the heavier LT rated (E tread rating).

Trace of snow okay that sealed the deal from me getting them. Thank you a ton for your input. Truly appreciate the time you took to assist me.

Keep in mind, I was referring to the LTX AT2 tires, not the Defenders. Just making sure you don't misunderstand me. :waytogo:
