Hello all, I recently purchased a 2012 ram 1500 CC sport 4by. I want to purchase a 6" or 4" inch lift but cannot decide on which to go with. I had a 2010 lifted Tacoma 4by and I didn't want to go with a drop bracket lift and went with bilsteins 5100 with eibach coils and an add a leaf in the rear. With that type of lift I had to do a diff drop to alleviate the angles on the axles and a carrier bearing drop but still had some take of shudder and some vibrations at 20-30 and 50-60mph after that it was smooth as glass. Since I'm new to this truck I want to somewhat get a good idea of what to go with and if any of the forum members have encountered any problems with their lift, like vibrations or shudder while in 4wd or not. I have also done some Reading on some of the members builds and I notice that with the 4" or 6" inch lift bilsteins are still installed. Is it really necessary to do so? Or with the stocks be okay. I would really appreciate the help guys. Thanks

i got a rough country 6" and i would definetly suggest just going for 6" lift. i dont have bilsteins but one day may run them. you can use them to "level" your truck after you lift it, by setting the bilsteins to give the front of your truck additional lift.

4x4 engaged low or hi I get no vibrations. And just riding around I really don't get any. I had a slight shimmy from 0-10 mph at first but after I retightened the rear end it dissapeared. I'm not gonna say it rides stock. But it's definety bouncey-er. Still very smooth

After a bunch of research here, I installed the 6" and 5100s set at 2.1". It's a great combo and close to level. The front is still a little high but I'm hoping it'll settle perfectly.

I'd installed lifts on other style suspensions too. The front diff actually rotates rather just dropping which I like. There's nothing hanging below the truck like dropped torsion bars.

Overall, I wouldn't go any other way.

Thanks a lot for the response mile high. Does your truck vibrate or wobble when engaged in 4wd?How much was your whole set up including the bilsteins if you don't mind me asking. Many other members on the forums say they like the rough country set up rather than the pro comp. is there a reason why that is. Some one said the front set up on pro comp I much better than rough countr. But the rear set up for pro comp its no good.

i like my rough country setup, because it for one is the cheapest. plus it comes with a lifetime warranty, it does re angle the front diff like mile high said which keeps angles pretty nice. the rear comes with new coils, which i feel is better than the spacers used on the procomp lift. and it doesnt use a preload spacer up front just one strut spacer. also the quality of the lift i feel is very good. everything lines up well. it feels very strong. and from what ive read researching it has the most clearance out of the 3 main lifts(pc rcx and bds). thats just my 2 cents on all of it...

I dont know if you want to go this route but you could check out Icons kits they offer, if you get their stage 3 suspension kit you get the same clearance pretty much as the 6" kits offered by others because the others use a drop bracket. plus you get great performance and requires no welding or anything and you can do it yourself, and with the savings you could get new upper control arms and cvs, and have an awesome offroad kit!

Wouldn't the axles be at somewhat of an angle with the adjustable coilovers than with a drop bracket they are straight. Some of the others here on the forums have complained of vibrations or wobble with 2-2.5 inches of lift when in 4by.I would also want to choose the right lift that is going to at least get it close to level.

Well if your at all worried about that wobble and such then you should get some kore high angle CVs, their working on them right now apparently. i have just a 2.5 inch level on right now, and its not the best ride, but the 3" icon is supposed to provide a great ride

What's the largest size tire I can use with the icon kit. What's the ride height on your truck?

35" fit, if you get the right offset wheel of course.

right now my fenders are sitting at i believe 38 3/4 and 40.5 in the back. if thats what your question is.

with the icon kit it should be 39.5 and 43.5 if my math is correct

go with a 6''.... i have a 6'' rcx with 1.25'' rcx body lift and pro com adjustables set at 2.75 and a 1.75'' rear coil spacer and i have no vibrations... stay away from 3'' levelling kits they're garbage.

my rcx 6'' put my cvs at a better angle than they sat when it was completely stock... it also ran better with a 6'' lift than it did with the 2.5'' levelling kit i had when i first started modding.... now sitting at about 10'' above stock running 37s i haven't had any issues... my cvs are still at an appropriate angle.. hope this helps.
