Any way to have doors lock on their own?

We had a string of car break ins last night, and unfortunately mine was one. While they didn't take anything or do damage, they certainly could have. Looks like I left my door unlocked, which is what brings me to this question:

Is there a way to have the door automatically lock if left alone after a time period? Ive got a 2014 Ram sport with the keyless entry/auto start option.

I don’t think so. Push the lock button when you get out I think is it after truck has been shut off.

Put a reminder on your door somewhere or steering wheel. Where you normally put your keys in the house. A little note to yourself.

I religiously lock my doors because of junkies and assholes going through our vehicles every night. I’ll catch them one day [emoji12]

Is there a module or option that can be installed to do this? II probably need to look into a security system for the truck.

I've had 3 4th Gen Sports, all with the key less entry and the only way I've ever figured out how to lock the truck is either manually by pushing down the button or using the key fob. If you go to the dealer and find another way I'd like to know what you find out--

Just get yourself in the habit of locking it as you walk away from it...I have never left my trucks unlocked, anywhere, for any length of time.
I locked'em before they had electric locks and it just got easier with the advent of electric locks.
Teach yourself to never walk away from your truck without locking it.

It's as simple as that.

The only time my truck locks on it's own is when I forget and leave the keys inside the truck.

^^THIS^^

I don't lock my vehicles, but I also don't leave anything of value in them. A lock only stops an honest person... if a thief sees something they really want they're going to bust the window, then you're having to replace the glass AND whatever they stole.

Leave the thing unlocked, take all your valuables out and then it doesn't really matter if someone opens the door and looks around.

My daily driver has keyless entry and exit. Walk up, open door. Walk away, doors lock automatically after few moments.

My old truck and my wife's car autolock in a timer after exiting. They would also auto lock on a timer if you remotely unlocked but didn't open the door.

It would be easy to have the latter on my Ram. It's just software. All the mechanicals are in place for auto locking. I think this is a typical "that's just not what we do" thing.

Interesting, this isn’t possible on my 2018, at least using the button on the door handle to engage the All-Access lock function. It detects that the keys are in the truck and will not lock the vehicle.

I would love both an Auto Lock and an Auto Unlock proximity feature. Unlock the vehicle when the key fob is within 10 feet, and vice-versa.

Have you looked thru the owners manual & the menu screens to see if you can ? there are a lot of things you can set like that based on your preferences.

I looked through all of my settings in the truck, but to no avail.

To those that suggest "locking the door" or "try not to forget", that would be the best plan. There is always the possibility we forget as we're all human. It would be wonderful to have some redundancy in the event something like this happens. It was a perfect storm of forgetting on a night that baddies were out, but Im very fortunate nothing was taken or damaged.

Im looking into a Viper security system; I think they're still a solid brand.

I’d love to find a module that would lock the doors X seconds after the key is turned off.

I had an aftermarket Viper alarm in my last Ram. At first, I had it set that way. Trust me, you don't want that feature.... it'll come back to bite you in the ass one day. LOL

Probably depends on where you live. We live in a relatively quiet neighborhood right on the edge of town and have had a handful of car break ins over the years. Only cars ever messed with or stolen from were the unlocked ones, never had a locked car broken into. Our area isn't too bad, but I lock everything up constantly, just don't trust people. I also don't leave anything in there that I would be heartbroken to lose, because as you said if someone really wants in, they will get in.

Same goes for home break ins here during the summer (when they skyrocket for obvious reasons). Best believe our house is locked down when we are not there or are sleeping.

I had two vehicles with aftermarket alarms. Both of them were configured to auto-lock after X seconds. In 17 years, I never locked my keys in either vehicle. Now, with the RAM, there are times I forget to lock it, though. I wish I had the auto-lock on this.

I'd recommend getting yourself in the habit of always unloading your pockets including your truck keys onto the nightstand by your bed. Then, when you climb into bed, hit the lock button twice and rest easy knowing it is locked. We had a instance last night several doors down where the ahole was going through unlocked vehicles. They caught it all on a Ring camera - which I have one as well - but would prefer to catch him between the legs with my Louisville slugger.
