Okay thanks Ken. Well I did a lot of research and it is a little complicated but Ken lucked out and I got the shaft. In general, from I can see reviewing 1/2 dozen parts websites (both Mopar and not) in general, when I plug in my VIN, or put in " 2013 Laramie", I do NOT gets Ken's "6" OEM part number. I get the OEM refurbished part number.starting with "R". (Ken's "6" part number does not come up for a Laramie). I definitely fault my dealer for minimally not advising me to get the OEM refurbished part number. I should have had the dealer at least buy the OEM refurbished Mopar part. Not knowing what I know now, I decided to get the Dorman because it was brand new and had a lifetime warranty, but took the risk on the labor figuring the first rack and pinion lasted me 12 years.
HOWEVER, when I put in 2013 "Sport", like Ken's RAM, I get the "6" part number and sometimes I also get the "R" OEM part number, mostly the "6" number. So in Ken's case, his dealer was absolutely at fault for not giving Ken the choice to buy the new OEM part or the refurbished one for a Sport. So Ken has a 100% right to be mad. My dealer was not "as much" as fault as from what I can tell online for a Laramie. My dealer could have done better.
There are a few sites with fine print that can imply that Ken's part will work with Laramie so only someone with experience and knowledge would have to know enough to take the risk of buying that part for a Laramie customer (not a Sport one).
So I really got the shaft because Ken's OEM "6" part is a brand new Mopar part and is readily available. It is obvious it is for the 2013 Sport, but not obvious that it would fit the Laramie, but appears like it would. So an experience parts dept may be able to figure it out. But it does not make sense that all the Mopar websites don't put Ken's "6" part number available for my Laramie. I don't know if it is a typo or not.
But Ken's case is cut and dry - when you look up Ken's vehicle, you can see the OEM Mopar new avaialble. Ken can sleep at night having his "6" part installed. But for my Laramie Ken's part does not come up as option. Although it could work, and I would bet that it would, it does not definitively come up. My dealership could have called Stellantis as a check instead of just going by the internet or whatever website. This part is old and who knows how much it is updated.
Thanks guys for your input. I think we figured out the part issue. Thank you Ken. This was more involved that I thought, but I get it now.
I guess my next steps is, is my continued issued due to it being a Dorman part or something like a wiring or rely issue?
