Please keep in mind that even in 2013 RAM has various Rack and Pinions Model numbers.

No, they didn't have a bunch of different racks for different trucks, within the 2013 year model.

What they DID have, was lots of updates and revisions and improvements, and every single change got a new part number. Also, they were produced at different plants, and the same revision from 2 different plants, also had 2 different part numbers.

The latest revision, with all the latest big fixes, is 68628858AA

I read that Ram had issues with the Racks and used different model numbers hence why some of the recalls affected some Rams and not others. Okay that cold explain the differening part numbers.

Out of curiosity Ken, would you kindly provide me your VIN number?

Thank you for your part number

I don't remember as it was over a hundred searches ago and they all say something different.

I haven't been keeping a record of my google searches.

Here, I think it was maybe this one where I found 5154157ad, or 5154157ae as the OEM 2013 ram parts. Or maybe not.

Don't remember 100%,

It doesn't matter, because the way Mopar does their part numbers creates an endless, circular rabbit hole.

If the same part was made on a different day, it would get a new part#.

Something else that maybe you'll find useful. Note the comment in the above linked part:

Screenshot_20250907-113220.Chrome.png

If you search up each of these superceded part numbers, then search for each of them, you will find that every single one, either superceded or was superceded by, each other.

It looks like I posted too many times trying to help you guys out, so now my posts need to be approved by a moderator before they're visible.

Good luck. I'm out.

Ken, I understand why you would not post your VIN. Would you please go to this website and plug in your VIN and search for Rack and Pinion and let me know your results?

When I do it I only get the R-part number like the dealer. This irks me. The only thing linking this R-part number to your "6" number is the Rock Auto website for interchangeable part for Dorman 601-903 which is something.
I don't know if Mopar does not reference that on purpose or just a gaffe.

Would you please post the link to the website where you able to determine that my original Rack and Pinion Part Number started with a "5" ? You posted "moparpartsonline" which doesn't come up as website on my end.

Just out of curiosity, is your 2013 Ram a crew cab, 5.7 L, 4X2, with entertainment system?

You gotta read back a few posts.

I took the time to type it out, which probably takes 5x longer than it takes you to read it. I already answered that. Post# 106.

Highlighted at the top, you can see that my vin is for a 13 sport

Okay thanks Ken. Well I did a lot of research and it is a little complicated but Ken lucked out and I got the shaft. In general, from I can see reviewing 1/2 dozen parts websites (both Mopar and not) in general, when I plug in my VIN, or put in " 2013 Laramie", I do NOT gets Ken's "6" OEM part number. I get the OEM refurbished part number.starting with "R". (Ken's "6" part number does not come up for a Laramie). I definitely fault my dealer for minimally not advising me to get the OEM refurbished part number. I should have had the dealer at least buy the OEM refurbished Mopar part. Not knowing what I know now, I decided to get the Dorman because it was brand new and had a lifetime warranty, but took the risk on the labor figuring the first rack and pinion lasted me 12 years.

HOWEVER, when I put in 2013 "Sport", like Ken's RAM, I get the "6" part number and sometimes I also get the "R" OEM part number, mostly the "6" number. So in Ken's case, his dealer was absolutely at fault for not giving Ken the choice to buy the new OEM part or the refurbished one for a Sport. So Ken has a 100% right to be mad. My dealer was not "as much" as fault as from what I can tell online for a Laramie. My dealer could have done better.

There are a few sites with fine print that can imply that Ken's part will work with Laramie so only someone with experience and knowledge would have to know enough to take the risk of buying that part for a Laramie customer (not a Sport one).

So I really got the shaft because Ken's OEM "6" part is a brand new Mopar part and is readily available. It is obvious it is for the 2013 Sport, but not obvious that it would fit the Laramie, but appears like it would. So an experience parts dept may be able to figure it out. But it does not make sense that all the Mopar websites don't put Ken's "6" part number available for my Laramie. I don't know if it is a typo or not.

But Ken's case is cut and dry - when you look up Ken's vehicle, you can see the OEM Mopar new avaialble. Ken can sleep at night having his "6" part installed. But for my Laramie Ken's part does not come up as option. Although it could work, and I would bet that it would, it does not definitively come up. My dealership could have called Stellantis as a check instead of just going by the internet or whatever website. This part is old and who knows how much it is updated.

Thanks guys for your input. I think we figured out the part issue. Thank you Ken. This was more involved that I thought, but I get it now.

I guess my next steps is, is my continued issued due to it being a Dorman part or something like a wiring or rely issue?

Horseees and water come to mind .
I wish you the best of luck on your hunt .
Trading sounds like a great idea for your situation.
Most lifetime warranties ,in my experiences ,have had me changing the parts on a regular basis, usually a year or two if lucky.

Using the search function for this site ,does not have Dorman parts on the top of the list for quality .
These tend to be a last resort when nothing else is available .

Exactly.

But, the net positive is that it leaves more of the newest revision EPS racks on the market for the rest of us.

Also, in the link and image below, look at the "Supersession" part numbers. Remember, if A=B and if B=C, Then it is an immutable ******* fact that A=C.

The part numbers have worked like this for at least the past 20 years , most likely more ,but I’m not gonna research when this came about .
Thanks for all the information you provided Ken , I’m sure it will be very helpful to have, for the right person.

If it fits a Sport it'll fit a Laramie, they all use the same frame and steering components. Once you figure that out, you'll be farther ahead. BTW you better send Ken a bottle of whiskey,as he's had more patience with you, then i would of had,i'd of told you you're on your own along time ago. ;)

As of this morning. The dealer mentioned that error code " c15c1-00" showed up. But the Power Steering light is often and turning okay. They think it is a binding issue and checking fuses.

As an update, I contacted Stellantis in Michigan, and after much investigation, Stellantis recommended that part number 68628858AA be installed, the same part that Ken recommended. I did convey the part that Ken recommended at first, but the dealer would not install it because according to the software system, it showed it was incompatible.

So Ken was right and with the help of Ken and Stellantis, we finally go it right. This part was installed and my RAM for the first time in over 3 months finally drove beautifully. Thank you Ken and all on this thread. I really appreciate y'll. I really appreciate the folks who post on these threads. I finally got my wonderful truck back!
